Borzoi -- Facts You Must Know Before Adopting Borzoi
Do you have a new puppy? Before you begin dog training, here are some of the things you'll need to train a new puppy.
The Borzoi, also known as the Russian Wolfhound, was bred originally to hunt animals on an open land. The average Borzoi weighs 60-105 pounds and stands 10-15 inches. With tall and elegant appearance, this breed is known to be designed for speed due to one of their primary purposes to attack wolves.
Coat
Borzois have long silky hair that is 2-4 inches long. Hairs on the back of their legs, tail, and in their beck ruff is 6-10 inches long. This breed can be found in varying colors. They are most often colored white. Tan and gray are also frequently seen, although some with dark-colored markings. They can either be solid-colored and mixed.
Activity
The Russian Wolfhound requires an extravagant amount of exercise. They make excellent walking and jogging companions only when they are securely leashed. They are fairly inactive indoors, and will become restless and vicious if left isolated for long periods of time. They require a fairly large securely fenced area to run freely ...

Temperament
As with other sight hounds, the Borzoi is territorial and requires a securely fenced yard and leashed walks. Their temperament varies and is dependent on early socialization experience and heritage. If well-socialized and properly trained, the Borzoi is delightful as they are well-mannered. As puppies, it is imperative for this breed to be exposed to other dogs and other animals as well as children to avoid unexpected predatory doings.
Overview
The Borzoi is a sight hound that depends on their speed and agility. This breed is aloof with strangers, but highly devoted to family. Placid, loyal, and affectionate, this breed has the appearance of a graceful aristocrat, brave, and elegant with extreme speed and muscular power.
Care
The Borzoi has a long coat that needs a quality bristle brush and good brushing at least once a week or more often if possible. But, this breed is not as difficult to take care as some think. They are able to take care of themselves; it is likely that you will need to bathe them infrequently. Dry shampoo can be used as wet bathing may be difficult with a large dog such as this. Trimming the hair between the Borzoi's toes is a must.
Training
The Borzoi is known to be difficult to train. Being a highly intelligent breed, they are known for their talent in hunting, although, as hounds, they are known to be hard to train because of their free spirit and independence. Although they are loyal to their families, they will not be eager to please their masters as much as taking time to achieve their own demands and goals. In training this breed, owners should use positive methods. The best methods usually start with building trust between the trainer and the dog. Training can be done at home by the owner or through professional specialized classes. Either way, the goal should be to look for a way to get the Borzoi to work with you instead of trying to discipline them for not cooperating with you.
Character
The Borzoi is a refined and aristocratic breed. They emanate dignified serenity, modesty, and confidence. Docile and devoted, this breed exudes brilliance in sighting, hunting, and lure coursing.
