You were driving along the freeway and you were just fine. The next minute you were overwhelmed by fear. Your heartbeat was pounding and racing; you were breathing faster than ever. You were already nauseous and dizzy, and out of control. Your hands were trembling and you felt like having a heart attack! You need to stop panic attacks or you would get crashing!

You went to your doctor but he told you there was nothing wrong. So, what happened that moment? It was just a panic attack. Having an attack while your feet are on the ground is different as when you are driving at 60 miles an hour on a crowded freeway. Do you have any idea how terrifying it would be if you had an attack while driving?

Here are some tips on how to stop a panic attack safely and as quick as possible while driving your car.

Learn How A Panic Attack Works:

Before you can stop it you need to know how it works. This experience is just the result of a fight or flight response. This response is all about a reaction when you are facing physical threats; this prepares your body to face or run from it. The brain sends the signal to ...
... your body that there is danger when there is no real danger at all.

Your body automatically responds, there is adrenalin rush to kick off all the body functions. Your heart beats faster and harder to bring oxygen and nutrients to the muscle tissues. Your blood pressure increases while the lungs makes breathing fast to force enough oxygen. Your muscles become tensed. Your body produces hormones and chemicals to make the mind aware and makes it ready for action.

How to Stop Panic Attack While Driving:

The right way to do it is to stop the message from your brain. You must divert your attention and do something new. This is somewhat difficult while driving when you have to take control of the car; you need to follow some tips for this.

1. Pull off the road to ensure safety. This will reduce the perceived threats of a car crash and make you feel better.

2. Make yourself realize that it is just a panic attack and nothing more serious than that. You are not having a heart attack nor getting crazy. It will be over in about ten minutes without doing anything.

3. Learn to control your breathing by taking slow deep breaths through the nose and exhaling through the mouth. This can stop the brain from taking control of your lungs. There will be less muscle tension almost immediately after taking deep breaths.

4. Distract your brain and think about other things to work on. Ask about the various items in your car and answer yourself. Pronounce each word loudly. When you ask a question that needs an answer, the brain will not sustain the message of threat from your panic attack. It will simply go away.

5. When you run out of questions to ask about the items in your car, count down from 200 backwards. That's quite a demanding work for the brain and you will feel a lesser effect of the panic attack at each of the backward count.

There you are; you can stop panic attacks while driving but you cannot disregard the possibility of a next attack. It will be wise to get therapy to learn how to prevent and cope with panic and associated disorders. This is a very effective way to get help and get a life free of panic disorder treatments.
