The expression training refers to the acquirement of knowledge, skills, and competencies as a result of the coaching of vocational or practical skills and knowledge that relate to precise useful competencies. It forms the heart of apprenticeships and provides the backbone of substance at institutes of technology (also called as technical colleges or polytechnics). In addition to the basic training required for a trade, occupation or job, observers of the labour-market realize today the need to maintain training past initial qualifications: to maintain, advance and revise skills throughout working life.

How to become a job apprentice

Step 1: Decide what vocation you want to train in
There are hundreds of vocations obtainable to trainees. The length of these traineeships varies from 12 months full-time to 4 years full-time.

Step 2: Find an employer

1. You could go to companies in your local region;

2. Look in the local paper;

3. Ask through the Job Network

4. You could go to any of the apprenticeship Centres (they may be aware of an company looking for trainees).

5. Group Training organizations also employ trainees and 'host' them out to various worksites.

Step 3: With your employer, choose your Training Organization and negotiate your training plan

1. Once you and your employer have met with a representative, you should select your Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Step 4: Commence your Traineeship/Apprenticeship

1. Once you have agreed on and signed your training plan , and your contract has been finished and approved, the || Apprenticeship Organization will forward both for approval.
