Just like the real world
Airports are worlds of their own. Which is funny considering the fact they're the starting point of many trips around the world. You don't need a ticket to get there, only when you're going abroad. The travelers need to eat and drink and they like to spend money. So in other words: airports are great if you're looking for jobs! And no, we're not talking pilots or flight attendants here.

Look around and think about it
Ever been to an airport? Of course you have. Maybe you've never flown before, but surely you've picked up someone who has. What do you do while you're waiting for someone? You eat something. Or you buy a drink and hey, a toilet break isn't such a bad thing either. That's three jobs already. The person giving you that sandwich, the one who handed you your drink and the toilet (and waiting area for that matter) need to be kept clean. Look around you and there are jobs everywhere. This is outside the gates alone, ever wondered about the possibilities behind the security gates? And yes, the people working in security are employees too.

Excitement and variety
Not ...
... in the mood for a job behind the counter? Too bad, there are a lot of shops at an airport. How about the duty free shops with perfume, booze and smokes? Who knows, maybe employees get a nice discount? Then there are the people working at the banks and exchanging money offices. Local foods while you're waiting for your flight? Those cheeses and chocolates are sold to you be people. Working people! Don't forget the gadget shops and electronics store all these people work behind the gates. The cleaners make sure it doesn't get too dirty, but they do their job in a cool place: the airport! Plane watchers, anywhere? Not to mention the employers working on the runway, fixing planes and making sure flights arrive safely. Besides regular jobs there are a lot of cool tech jobs at airports but you'll need some fair education for those.

Keep it simple
No need to send an application letter to the airport directly; those letters are bound to get lost in the mail. It can be done a whole easier, for example through a job employment agency. But of course you can take the lead yourself and try it without help form anybody else. Why not write or call or email you potential future employer about your skills? Let them know you're applying for a job and that you're eager to learn a lot. Be sure to have a kickass letter though, employers receive an awful lot of application letters and they're bored easily. Nobody cares about a long specific tale of your past, it's your enthusiasm they like!

Stick to what you know
The best way to find a job is to look for something you're experienced in. This can be anything, of course. Ever worked in a shop before? Cleaned an office after work hours? Ever worked in a hotel? It's what they call experience, baby! And the environment is a whole lot better when you're at an airport! Don't get too jealous of the travelers though remember they also worked for their money so they deserve a break.

Like in the real world, airports offer jobs in any shape and form. Every wondered what it's like to walk on the runway? You don't need to be that experienced to be able to give it a go. Check out thevacatures Schiphol or job offers at Schiphol Airport!
