Rio De Janeiro Nightlife Tourist Guide
The nightlife in Rio de Janeiro is well-known for offering some of the best moments in a tourists' life, but there are a couple of traps that could turn what a wonderful night might have become into a total disaster. With the help of this article we will try to share a couple of tips about what to do and avoid when in Rio.
First order of business - prices. We strongly advise you to drink national produced beverages and avoid at all costs spending money on imported drinks. Also, just as important, make sure that you do not forget about the cover charge when you are in a live music place. When you are being served at a table, remember to pay the extra 10% service charge. Do not fall into the drink card trap because the boxes on that card get checked faster than you can think so stay away.
We advise you to consume cheap beer you enter the establishment, preferably from the vendor's trunk which is in most cases located conveniently near the club. Before you go in, make sure that you first find out how much the entrance fee is.
We recommend that regardless of where you go, you take with you a copy of the passport. ...
... In fact, some clubs will not allow you to go in if you don't have the passport with you. Taking one will also help you get rid of the obnoxious policemen from harassing you since by law you are carrying an ID with you.
As far as the clothing is concerned, we know that Havaians is very cool and comfortable footwear, it does not fit into the club gear in Rio de Janeiro. For the regular corner bar, we recommend that you wear flip-flops and shorts. For a more upscale place, you cannot go wrong with shoes and pants. The vast majority of the clubs in Rio will not allow you to get in wearing sandals or shorts.
If you are interested in music, Rio has a lot to offer, being the home of many important musical genres like bossa nova, choro and of course, samba. Locally, in the last few years the city blossomed with a lot of choro and samba venues, most of them can be found in Lapa. If you want to visit the city on New Year's Eve, you picked a good time as Rio is known for its wonderful firework display and various music shows that gather more than 2 million people every year on the lovely Copacabana beach. We recommend that you dress in white for good luck and have the traditional New Year's Eve toast.
The clubs in Rio play whatever is on the radio during that period, in most cases all the USA radio hits, MTV's most popular songs. There is also an underground scene with rap, e-music and rock if you do not like commercial music. To find out more about these type of music, make sure that you check the flyers handed or left at cinemas, hostels, nightclub lines and theater lobbies.
As you can see, there is a lot more to the Rio de Janeiro nightlife than most of us know. The city has a lot to offer: various bars, clubs, restaurants, theaters, parties and basically anything you can think about in terms of fun.
