1967 Season In The Nba

The 1967-68 NBA season was the 22nd season of play for the National Basketball Association. The previous season featured teams ousting the Lakers and the Celtics out of the spotlight. The Lakers and were both on a mission in this season to shake off the lack struggles of the previous seasons.
The Philadelphia 76ers put together another stellar season in the regular season. They were still led by the dominant Wilt Chamberlain. Chamberlain was the MVP of the league for good reason. He led the league in rebounds, field goal percentage and even assists. It is very rare to see a center lead the league in assists, but Chamberlain really put together an amazing season.
With the great numbers that Chamberlain put up the 76ers were able to take home the best regular season record in the NBA. They would win 62 games on the season. The next best team in the Eastern Conference was the Boston Celtics. The Celtics may not have had the best regular season, but there is no doubt that everyone was going to fear them come playoff time. They finished with a 54-28 record on the season.
The New York Knicks were the last team ...
... in the Eastern division with a winning record. They ended up with a 43-39 record on the season. Despite this solid season they were still a whopping 19 games behind the leading 76ers at the season's close. The Pistons, Cincinnati Royals and Baltimore Bullets would round out the rest of the Eastern Division. They would finish with records of 40-42, 39-43 and 36-46 respectively.
The Western Division featured a new competitor, the St. Louis Hawks. The Hawks jumped the Lakers and the Warriors to land the best record in the Western Division. This record would also be the 2nd best record in the NBA. At the end of the season the Hawks would have 56 wins and 26 losses, 4 games ahead of the 2nd place team.
Second place would be owned by the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers finished with a 52-30 record on the season. They were led by Jerry West and Elgin Baylor. While they were considered two great players back then, they are now seen as two of the best players that have ever played the game.
Third place was won by the San Francisco Warriors. The Warriors were led by Rick Barry, the scoring machine. They managed a 43-39 record on the season. The Chicago Bulls, Seattle Supersonics and San Diego Rockets would finish in the bottom half of the division. The teams would end with records of 29-53, 23-59 and 15-67.
When the playoffs came around the familiar names ended up carrying their teams. The Lakers and Celtics managed to push through their competition and found their way to the NBA Finals for yet another matchup. The Celtics had the Lakers' number in years past and they continued to take it to Los Angeles.
The series would be won 4-2 by the Celtics, making them NBA Champions once more.
