Office 2007 Get Tabbed User Interface
Microsoft Office 2007 update is always risky. My fingers and toes of contraction from the moment you click OK until I've convinced myself that everything is working. Will it break my computer? Will it work well? I winced and held my breath through the installation of Vista, then forget the pain and anxiety quickly when I saw Vista worked mostly as a fixed-up version of XP.
I can not say the same for the Office. First reaction: This has changed everything! Office 2007 deletes the old toolbars and menus at the top of the screen and replaced with the Ribbon, an overlapping set of tabs that regroups each application's functions in graphical tools rather than text-driven menus. However, the photos do not do justice to the tape. See this movie to see in action. Even better, download a free 60-day concerns of Microsoft Office 2007-no, do not clear the existing Office software.
The Ribbon mimics the tabbed interface of Firefox and Internet Explorer 7. It looks good, but it took more than ...
... five minutes to find, configure and test the options exchange control my publisher expected. As my deadline loomed, I panicked when I could not find the option to save in Office 2007. He hides behind a new jewellike logo in the upper left called the Office Button.
Microsoft reviewer's guide makes it clear that all the keyboard commands you know and love are still here. That mitigate the writing-speed counters that otherwise refuse to change. But as good as the Ribbon and other user interface improvements are, it is natural that most users will react with annoyance rather than wonder when they learn they can not be changed to some kind of "classic mode "in order to complete a write-up that should last 20 minutes (alias dvd).
At first, I do not see the point of tabbed user interface, thumbnails, and rounded edges. Microsoft was just trying to embrace the Web 2.0 aesthetic? I emailed PC World editor Harry McCracken to ask if something was missing. McCracken praised the ribbon for the future, the type of user interface was designed from the start for late-model PC. "The old Office user interface back to the days when only the representation of a menu used considerable computing power," he said. "The new Office user interface usually shows things rather than explaining."
He's right. The film uses thumbnails instead of text labels in most places. In another part of the screen, menus, ghosts appear and disappear, as I work, which offers non-graphical menu lists the text of the tools (fonts, styles, highlighting) might want to apply. Microsoft Office 2007 is still driving me crazy because they know where things were going. But now I can see where it goes, and I can see the happy future pecking me in Word 2007. But that leaves me wondering: If you really want to redesign the Office of nothing, why not, as Google Docs and Spreadsheets and offer a version with all functions based on the Web? I would be happy with that now, not in the indefinite future.
Microsoft Office 2007 will delight the next generation of word processors and infuriate old fogeys. In this way, it reminds me less of their socio-release, the soft and seductive Vista, Windows 95, a radical change nonbuyers left behind and everyone bothers to buy it. The curse that now, but eventually upgrade to join the rest of the human race. And I'll be glad you did Someday. If you want to get more information, visit http://topsoftsell.com.
