Preventing Fire Damage At Home During Holidays: Go For Safe Christmas Trees

Christmas trees delight a huge percentage of Americans during the holiday season. It is not surprising that many families want at least one pine inside their abode to reflect the joy of the season. However, this joy can turn into a nightmare if these trees are not properly used and eventually result to fire damage at home.
The dry and wet tree
The United States Fire Administration perfectly illustrated the cause of concern in their website. In a video clip courtesy of the Building and Fire Research Laboratory of the NIST or National Institute of Standards and Technology, samples of a wet and a dry Scotch trees were ignited. Just a few seconds after contact with fire, the dry tree was ablaze. In less than a minute, nearby furniture were already in fire too.
On the other hand, a tree standing in less than 10 liters of water maintained daily did not light up even when an entire matchbook was used. Sure it ignited after propane torch was used but the flame eventually died when the torch was cut down from the branches.
Check the decors too
Having a Christmas tree is one issue but additional ...
... lights and decors on the tree is another thing when it comes to fire damage at home. Many Christmas tree fires can be traced to electrical arcing and not just lighted candles touching the tree or the decors. Homeowners should avoid substandard decorations that make use of electricity. If you are using the same Christmas lights from last year, make sure that these are still safe to use. When in doubt, have these checked by an electrician or just buy new ones.
Fire damage home or residential fire damage is quite a common scenario after a blaze. However, it should not be taken lightly and people who have experienced such unfortunate incident can attest to that. Whether it will cause you little as a burnt Christmas decor or as concerning as an injured family member, it is something you do not want to happen and fortunately, you can do something to avoid it and truly enjoy the holidays.
