Men and women have a variation in body structure to complement one another for fertilization. Men have an organ for reproduction which stores and carries sperm cells. Female reproductive system, on the other hand, contains ovaries for the egg cells. Aside from this variation in the reproductive organ, one distinct body feature among women is the breasts.

In medical terms, breasts are known as the mammary glands. They refer to the front of the chest that is largely composed of cells capable of storing fats. Female hormone estrogen stimulates the formation of breasts in a woman's adolescence stage. At this point, tissues accumulate fats, causing the breasts to enlarge. Secretory glands begin to grow at the end of milk ducts. Changes in a young woman's breasts continue with the development of more glands and ducts.

Mammary glands are internally composed of tubes and channels. The complex network of branching ducts end in sac-like structures called lobules. Lobules produce milk during the post-partum stage of pregnancy. These lobules are interconnected to a small opening at the middle part of the breast called the ...
... nipple. The nipple is surrounded by a dark brownish pigment known as areola.

The areola contains small modified sweat glands which act as lubricant during breastfeeding. The natural lubricating chemical is produced by Montgomery's glands. Mammary glands are mostly composed of fats which make the size of breasts vary from one woman to another. This causes women with smaller breasts resort to breast augmentation (Los Angeles has various cosmetic surgery centers for this procedure) to enlarge their breast size and shape. Nevertheless, women produce the same amount of milk regardless of breast size.

Moreover, unnecessary fluid flows back to the blood stream through thin channels called lymphatics. The fluids are drained through lymph nodes connected to the underarm and behind the breastbone. Anatomists say that the bounce characteristic of breasts is caused by the elasticity of the matrix tissue fibers inside the breast augmentation (Los Angeles cosmetic centers inform women on consequences of artificial implants).

Recently, breast implants (Los Angeles) services are obtained by women who want to have bigger mammary glands. Be that as it may, the life-supporting function of this organ stays - whatever sizes a woman's breasts is. Mammary glands are vital organs in a woman's anatomy.
