Guidelines For Towing A Caravan Trailer With Your New Volkswagen

It is not especially difficult but if you are completely new to pulling a trailer then it can be a little over-whelming. The number one problem is becoming comfortable with the added length of the combination of car and trailer and finding a way to control them on the road.
So if you are about to use a trailer, then here are 9 tips to keep in mind to make sure you have a more secure road trip in your Volkswagen and feel more in control when towing a trailer, as generated by the leasing firm www.centralcontracts.com.
1) Firstly, take a flick through the manual. A trailer should have their own manual or maybe just a sticker on the inside that will have details regarding what type of vehicle you need in order to tow it safely. You should also check the Volkswagen manual as you don't want to overload your Volkswagen's engine.
2) Next, check to see if the trailer has a hitch package. This is basically a facility to connect your trailer or camper electronics to your vehicle. This is an essential safely feature as it powers the rear lights on your trailer or caravan, making sure that other drivers can see that ...
... you are on the road.
3) Test your view as you want to make sure it is not restricted. This might involve mirrored extenders for your wing mirrors so that you can see the length of the trailer and also give you some idea of what other road users are doing, which is especially important with motorcycle users. The last thing you would like to do is cause a serious crash that may injure other road users.
4) Have a safety inspection before you put the key in the ignition. You need to take the time to ensure that fittings and connections are to the required standard. This should include: checking the pressure of tyres, making sure hitch wiring is long enough for the trailer to make turns, connecting the stabilizer and equalizer, making sure the camper or trailer is balanced and place the trailer tongue into the correct position.
5) Before you put the key in the engine you need to make sure your belongings are secure. You should do this as you don't want to arrive at your destination and discover all of your belongings are broken, all over the floor and cracked into thousands of pieces.
6) If you go down a hill then hold your speed. Go to a lower gear and slowly go down the hill, this is perhaps the only safe way to cope with declining roads.
7) As you reverse you should not stress-out but instead take your time. In the event of steering then any adjustment of the steering wheel can damage the camper and completely destroy the tow bar.
8) Then, during your drive you need to change your style to avoid tight turns. If it is possible you should change your driving style so that steering adjustments can be made ahead of time, this will ensure you stay a lot safer during your trip.
9) Lastly, most Volkswagens should be appropriate for towing but if you have concerns then it might be a lot safer to lease a more powerful Volkswagen instead. For example, I recently found a Golf leasing deal, from www.centralcontracts.com which I found to be better for my towing needs.
By following the tips given above you should have a great experience during your next journey, irrespective of the final destination.
