Residential Roofing And Commercial Roofing Caring For Your Roofs!
Commercial roofing and residential roofing can safeguard the roofs of your business and residence. By using certain types of building materials, you can prevent rain and other elements from damaging your roof and the interior. There is a basic difference between residential roofing and commercial roofing. While commercial roofing uses a flat slope, residential roofing has a slightly steep slope.
The Right Building Material
Choosing the right building materials for both commercial roofing and residential roofing is very important. For example, if you use a material that absorbs heat, then you can lower down your cooling bills considerably. Cost should not be the criteria for determining the effectiveness of the building material; instead, keep in mind the requirements of your home. The ideal material for residential roofing or commercial roofing is one that can be installed properly, is easy to maintain and fulfils the needs of the building—whether you want protection from sun, rain, or wind.
Different Types of Commercial Roofing Systems
A commercial roofing system is created by using ...
... shingles, which can be made of wood, clay, slate or asphalt. The cheapest out of all these building materials is asphalt, but it is quite difficult to maintain and is not very long-lasting. Another type of commercial roofing, that is also considered the most effective, is a membrane roofing system, where the roofs are made up of rubber or PVC sheets. These roofs are lightweight, durable, are able to reflect sunlight and are easily affordable.
Types of Residential Roofing
For residential roofing, the options for building materials are more varied ranging from steel, copper, aluminium or metal alloys. Most durable option being metal roofs made from galvanized steel. They are easy to maintain, energy-efficient, and fire-resistant. The most popular material currently is standing-seam steel. The main advantage of having a metal roof is that it is lightweight, durable, and is very low on maintenance. Disadvantages are that they are expensive and difficult to install.
Residential roofing also makes use of shingles made from ceramic tiles, clay, wood and slate. They all have certain advantages. For example, clay shingles help keep the premises cool, wood shingles are pretty to look at, and slate shingles are very strong and can last up to 100 years after installation. However, before choosing any type of shingle roofing system, certain points should be kept in mind:
Slate shingles are breakable and expensive
Wood shingles are not durable and require constant maintenance, and are not fire-resistant unless treated specifically
Clay tile shingles are prone to breakage
