King Of Cool Behind The Bar!
Say hi and smile
Customers that are being ignored by a bartender won't fill the tip jar. No matter how busy you are, always greet customers that come up to you. Tell them if you're not able to help them immediately. No need to look someone died, why wouldn't you be smiling on nights like these? A full bar means business. Hello tip jar! The more customers you serve, the more cash you are likely to pick up at the end of your shift.
Chill out
No, really; Relax. Even if there are a thousand eyes staring at you, demanding drinks at the same time. You are the only one behind the bar and really there's only so much you can do. Some customers will understand! The main thing is that you don't ever let your customers see you sweat. There's no need to move as fast as possible and yelling at customers is not going to get them served any faster. Surely even they will know that!
Like the boy scouts: be prepared!
At some point during your shift (usually when you start in the early evening) you'll be waiting for something to do. Don't go texting friends, make sure you're prepared for what's ahead of you. So, ...
... are there any bottles running low? Re-stock! Whenever you do run out of adrink during rush hour, you don't need to leave your bar to get a new bottle. Prepare more, stress less! If you're a few steps ahead, there's no need to panic later on during the night.
Multiple orders
If you're taking drink orders at the bar, try to take more than one order at a time. Start with the customers standing directly in front of the tap and take as many orders as you are comfortable with. As long as you can remember them all, you're safe! Make this a little easier by grabbing the needed glass when someone places their order. Makes it easy to remember what they wanted! In case you forget of course, not saying that you're going to.
Strategy
Who are you going to help first? If you randomly scream out who's next, you're likely to get a response from everyone there. So, make sure you know who's where and who came first. Start with the people in front of the tap, this is an easy spot to make and then give a drink. Look left and right every now and then, there are always customers trying to squeeze through the crowd who have been waiting for a while. If they wait too long, they will not tip. Create a line in your head, because the customers will not do this for you. The more organzied you are and prepared you are, the more relaxed you'll feel and therefore be on a crowded night. Bartending is supposed to be fun, so you might as well enjoy it!
Work during events
If you're looking for a cool job as a bartender or in the cater business, you might want to check out the opportunity of cool events. Think music festivals or other events that involve a lot of happy customers. That way you can also enjoy the event itself, and this means a win-win situation for everyone!
Can you keep your cool on a busy night and you like to keep customers happy during cool events? Take a look at one of the cool jobs in bars or so called horeca vacatures!
