Unbelievable Xmas Supermarkets

Why is it that almost everybody goes crazy at the supermarkets when it gets close to Christmas? Each year the same thing happens; shopping trolleys are piled high with groceries and shoppers act as though the stores are going to be shut down for weeks. But, in reality, they are only shut for one day, or two at the most! So why do so many people start panic buying at Christmas? Is it because they see others overfilling their trolleys, so therefore feel compelled to do the same? Is it due to an irrational feat that everyone else will beat them to that last box of mince pies, even though they have been on sale since August?
The Christmas shop is probably one of the biggest grocery shops of the year. So be it on your own head should you leave it until the last minute! Then again, there are many great offers to be had as the supermarkets prepare to close their shutters for the December 25th shutdown. You can pick up all sorts of bargains and large discounts, especially on perishable goods such as fresh meat, bread and vegetables. But is it really worth putting your own neck on the line, particularly if the shelves are empty ...
... of turkeys by the time you get there?
It's become almost an unwanted tradition - the much feared Christmas shop. Each year you mentally prepare yourself for the hurdles and challenges that lie ahead. First up is to find a parking space. Many supermarkets now employ staff to direct incoming customers to available parking spaces! Next is to get your hands on an actual trolley. It is not unknown for customers to have to ask and then follow other departing customers back to their car, in order to secure a shopping trolley. Then after those hurdles are surmounted, it's full steam ahead into the supermarket, where even the patience of a Saint will probably be tested to the very limit.
As you navigate around the store, you can't help but notice fellow shoppers carts. Does anybody actually need ten gallons of milk to last them one day, or a couple at that? If the trolleys clipping your heels left, right and centre, children shouting, families arguing doesn't push you over the edge, then the empty shelf where your favourite Christmas nibbles are usually kept probably will! It's almost always at this juncture that you vow to never to try Christmas shopping this close to Christmas day, ever again.
