The Ford brand was founded by Henry Ford and 11 other investors, contributing $28,000, two of which were the Dodge brothers, John and Horace, who later created their eponymous brand. 1903 also saw the creation of the first Ford model - the 'Fordmobile'.

Following this, the company grew and grew to the motoring behemoth it has become today, though it has not been without its occasional scandals or negative aspects affecting its course. Listed below are five key points in the timelines of the history of Ford Motor Company, as compiled by the company Central Contracts.

1896-1903: In 1896, the Ford Quadracycle is created as Henry Ford's first vehicle, on the frame of a buggy and supported by 4 bicycle wheels. In 1898, Ford creates the Detroit Automobile Company, but this was dissolved within the next two and a half years. 1901 - Ford wins a high-profile race and after this the Henry Ford Company is formed, but discontinued a year later. In 1903, Ford Motor Company is fully created.

1906-1919: Ford becomes the top selling brand in the US, with 8,700 models produced by 1906. In the next three years, Ford Motor ...
... Company (England), or Ford Britain, is formed to effectively target the UK market. Two years later, Ford also creates a factory in Manchester to facilitate quicker production of vehicles. Edsel Ford takes presidency of Ford in 1919.

1929-1945: In 1929, Ford reaches an annual production peak of 1.5 million, thereby dominating the production market, efficiently overtaking Chevy. Ford create a general purpose jeep designed for military use in 1941 and the pressed metal grille that was used on the front of the model is still in use today. In 1943, then-president Edsel Ford succumbs to cancer with father Henry taking the role as president once again, until 1945, when Henry Ford II takes over.

1947-1989: Henry Ford II takes over as chairman following his grandfather's death in 1947. After 10 years, Ford launched the Edsel brand of automobiles, in commemoration of a former president and also celebrates production of 1.68 million vehicles. Three years following, Robert McNamara, the newly-appointed US Secretary of Defense becomes the President of Ford. To dominate further automotive markets, Ford of Europe is set up in 1967. In 1977, Ford take 25% in Mazda, also acquiring Hertz Rent-a-Car and Aston Martin Lagonda in 1987. In 1989, Ford also acquire Jaguar.

1999-2010: Great grandson of Henry Ford, Bill Ford becomes chairman of the Board and acquires Volvo car division in 1999. The following year BMW sell Land Rover brand to Ford in 2000. Closing unprofitable factories in 2006, Ford begins a restructuring program and Alan Mulally also becomes CEO and President. In 2007, Ford report company losses and sell Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover. Despite this, Focus leasing at the company Central Contracts has become one of the most popular customer options.

With the recent restructuring program and a continued brand trust, it is likely that the firm can regain its position as leaders in the market; however, whatever happens, it is clear that this is one of the most important vehicle brands that has left a substantial mark in the history of automobiles.
