Hunting is the activity through which each and every one of us can enjoy shooting firearms in a safe environment that also becomes rewarding once you start to improve your skills. In theory, a firearm should be pretty simple, you load a shell or a cartridge, you pull the trigger and the bullet or the pellets hit the target, right? Well, in reality hitting the target is the hardest thing to do and depending on your activity choosing the right weapon, or in this case shotgun to be more precise, makes a lot of difference. When it comes to hunting there is a large variety of game, and for each individual category the most appropriate weapon must be used, be it a scoped rifle or a Remington shotgun. For most animals however, the shotgun is the ideal choice but the selection process is long from being over.

This decision process must first determine the size and power of the Remington or Colt shotgun. This type of weapon has numerous variations, ranging from the renowned 12 gauge shotgun to the 28, but there are also some others. The next decision is based more on the individual preference of each hunter and refers of course ...
... to the loading action of the shotgun. Whether we are speaking about Remington, Colt or other brands of shotgun weapons, the most widely used options are the pump action and the semi automatic or self loading action. Although the self loading action shotgun is far more convenient to use as it does not require the hunter to perform any action between shots, the Colt or Remington pump action shotgun is still the preferred choice of most hunters from all around the world simply for its traditional feel.

However, the self loading shotgun is gaining more and more fans as this system is continuously refined by large weapons manufacturers such as Remington and Colt. The latest designs significantly reduce the recoil and this coupled with new composite materials being used in the manufacturing of the actual shotgun makes it a much more versatile option. Believe it or not there is also a bolt action system for the shotgun and although this system has its fans it has not caught on with hunters mainly due to its large recoil.

A good advice for anyone who wants to hunt using a Remington or Colt gun but does not have any experience with fire arms, is to consult a specialist as they can help with the decision process and ensure you make the best choice. The internet is a great resource pool if you want to do some research yourself. You can also find shops specializing in shotgun weapons from manufacturers such as Colt, Remington, and numerous others, or you can also visit the websites of the manufacturers directly and check out the entire list of items they have available at the moment.
