Ceramic Art - The Decoration Of The Blue Blooded
The word ‘ceramic' originates from the Greek word of ‘Keramikos' which means the ‘the potters clay'. It is an art that has originated over the history of time which stands as evidence to a lot of archaeological finds.
It is a pre-historic form of art, which was made not as an art piece but for functional purposes. Till the present date, it has taken a lot of modifications in its style and purpose.
It was used as decoration, for the holding of different items, and etc. Today the term ceramic art also involves pottery done with glass and mosaic and not by clay as it was usually done.
This form of art is practiced by individuals who are well-skilled in this form of art, and also a group of people manufacturing them on a larger scale in factories for commercial purpose.
It was well used by the Greeks, the Chinese, Persians, Egyptians and so on through the time of history for many different purposes and were made through different methods.
Originally it was made as a clay pot was made, giving the designs on it through the use of wires and carving tools. Nowadays it is manufactured ...
... through techniques of heating and sculpting, using glass and tiles as the primary material.
The decorations and designs on the ceramic work can also be painted on.
Early methods were better known as the ‘coiling method' where a long string was wound to make a round shape to give the basic shape to the pot then it was manually given the final details and smoothening.
Ceramic art is basically found in places and temples and really refined modern day structures as decoration also. Glazed bricks with beautiful patterns painted in different colors were used as mosaic.
Even figures and figurines made out of materials like clay and glass are known as ceramic art.
The Chinese are well known for the art work on porcelain which is also a form of this kind of art. Porcelain is used to create plates and cups and also figures and figurines, and this is a very popular form of this art.
Ceramic art gifts are very special for their unique form and look, for any occasion for someone special. It is also a vintage gift which is for people with a very fine choice and taste. It can be used basically for decoration and adding character to one's own home more than for functional purposes.
