Bosco Vs Fang: Starting A Newsletter Part 1

Fang thinks Bosco has really lost his mind, again! Bosco is planning to do an online newsletter. Fang thinks the Internet is a passing fad. Remember years ago when folks thought the automobile and TV were "passing fads"? Well, Fang has an Edsel, so you see where he's coming from! Anyway, Bosco thinks it is a great idea! He sees others doing it, why can't Bosco? Here is how their conversation went the other day: Bosco: "You know, Fang, I've been thinking. I've been kicking around the idea of starting a newsletter online. It sounds like something I can get into. And it doesn't require tons of money." Fang: "Hee, hee. Where do you get these bird brain ideas? Have you been drinking something stronger than Pepsi? Who do you think you are, fella?" Bosco: "Gee, Fang, don't you ever think about living the way you want, when you want? There's more to life than working for Mr. Crabapple. He can fire you anytime, even though you've worked there for 20 years." Fang: "Old man Crabapple won't fire me, I've got too much dirt on him. Hee hee!" Bosco: "Well I'm not so sure. I'll start a newsletter just in case Crabapple sells the company ...
... to his brother. He's greedier and meaner than Crabapple!" So Bosco proceeded to lay out the steps to Fang about his idea. First, Bosco checked out web hosts for the web site to go with his newsletter. He went to a search engine and typed in "free web hosts". He found tons of sites offering free web hosting. But he figured if someone saw he was hosting his site on a free server or host, they wouldn't take him seriously. Folks would think he wasn't serious about his newsletter. So he typed in "web hosts" and found pricing plans from a few dollars to expensive ones. One of the best he found was offered by Yahoo! at: http://website.yahoo.com/ It offered a lot of features and was reasonably priced. But he wanted a CGI capable web site for all sorts of forms he needed on his site. So Bosco went back and typed in "cgi web hosts" at his favorite search engine. He found one that looked good at: http://www.onlineinstitute.com/host/ Of course, he knew other folks would need to look around and find what suited them. He also found these directories that would help him in his search: http://www.webhostdir.com/ http://www.comparewebhosts.com Next, Bosco needed a template for his website. He didn't know that much HTML, but needed a good starting point. As his newsletter grew, he could get something more fancier. He found some at: http://freesitetemplates.com/ http://www.freewebtemplates.com/ Fang: "All that's great Bosco. But what topic are you going to write about?" Bosco: "Those online courses I bought have tons of good information in them. There are new folks out there on the internet who need direction, and help making sense of it, and then making money on the 'net."
