For a long time, HTC is known to be the hardware monster in the mobile phone market. Now it seems that HTC has finally found its point of growth. From HTC G1 to now the HTC Nexus One, HTC has gained wider and wider notice along with the hot trend of Android OS. Recently HTC announced two more handsets that would be marketed under the Desire name, the HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z, and we are going to take a closer look at the HTC Desire Z right now.

In terms of dimensions, the HTC Desire Z comes in at 119 x 60.4 x 14.16mm. It is a bit of a fat phone, because it adds a side-slide QWERTY keyboard which will be a real boost to those who rely on messaging as their main form of communication. And it weighs 180 grams, slightly on the heavy side, probably due to the aluminium unibody casing. The HTC Desire Z is smaller than the Desire HD with only a 3.7-inch screen, supporting up to 16M colors with a resolution of 480 x 800. Due to S-LCD capacitive technology, the display presents crisp and clear images. Along with the QWERTY keyboard, ...
... there are a couple of other improvements on the HTC Desire Z, and the most notable of these is an updated version of the proprietary HTC user interface, HTC Sense which allows you to customize the home screen or download widgets..

The HTC Desire Z makes communication easy for you by providing a wide selection of easy to use communication features. Messaging is clearly an important part for this handset, and not just because it adds a QWERTY keyboard (although that's obviously important) but also a unified inbox, which make messaging service (including SMS, MMS, Email, Push Email, IM) more convenient. And this mobile phone also comes with social network application such as Facebook and Twitter, so you can easily sync Facebook, Twitter and email accounts with your friends, and also do little things like pre-tagging Facebook photos, which just makes things that much easier, and add more fun to daily life.

Shooting pictures is always fun with the HTC Desire Z, thanks to its boast-worthy 5 megapixel camera. This high resolution camera phone provides you with clear pictures practically one hundred percent of the time, many thanks to its integrated camera features such as a LED flash, autofocus, geo-tagging and face detection technology. Video recording is enabled, up to HD quality, at 720p. In terms of memory, there is 1.5GB storage space available for storing media, which is expandable up to 32GB via Micro SD memory cards. The Desire Z also includes a very capable media player, supporting MP3, WAV, AAC+ file formats. Complimenting the onboard media player is a stereo FM radio with RDS, and there is a 3.5m audio jack. You can have a wonderful aural experience via a set of compatible headphones

Connectivity options on the Desire Z are well covered, with all the major data connection options included, with the latest versions of EDGE and GPRS (Class 32), plus HSDPA up to 14.4 Mbps Mbps and HSUPA at up to 5.76 Mbps, which all provides you with high speed transfer rates when you are transferring data. And of course, you can also connect and surf via Wi-Fi hotspot browsing that uses signals coming from wireless internet routers as well. Overall, the browsing experience is solidly fast and connections are hardly dropped. You can also connect to different mobile phones thanks to connectivity provided by Bluetooth technology and a micro USB connection.

Other notable features on the HTC Desire Z include a built in GPS receiver with A-GPS support and the inclusion of a digital compass. All the main Google mobile applications are included, with Google Maps, Gmail, Google Talk, YouTube pre installed, and Picasa support is integrated in the Desire Z album application.
