The smell of cigarette can be pervasive especially to non-smokers. What's more is that cigarette smoke odor removal is not easy. The smell of smoke can cling to anything, even to concrete walls, much to the frustration of many.

There are two ways that you can go about removing the smell of cigarette in your home: hiring professionals or doing the cleanup yourself. Either way however, the processes involved are just the same.

Before doing any cleanup, among the things you should know are the common mistakes that most homeowners make when dealing with the pungent smell of cigarette. One of these is using air fresheners that do nothing but mask the odor. They do not actually remove the odor; they just hide the smell of cigarette and when the sweet smell of these fresheners fade the foul odor returns.

The smell of cigarette may primarily come from fabrics so these should be the first items in the room or home that should be cleaned. Unlike other home items, fabrics can easily be washed and dried. Remove curtains, rags and other furnishings that are washable. Aside from using detergents, a good fabric ...
... conditioner may help too. For sofas and carpets that can be difficult to wash, use natural sanitizers like baking soda. Just sprinkle enough amount on the fabric surface, leave over night then vacuum the next day.

When deodorizing walls, it is best to keep in mind a few safety measures. While using water and detergent ensure that the liquid solution does not go into any electrical outlets to avoid shock. Also, keep floors dry to avoid accidental slipping. Testing any water solution against a small portion of the wall may also help ensure you do not damage your walls entirely.

When everything has been deodorized and cleaned, it is best to leave natural deodorizers in the room. A bowl of charcoal in each corner of a room can help absorb any persistent cigarette smell. Orange peels or vinegar may work as well.

One of the processes that professional cleaners use in cigarette smoke odor removal is by using ozone generators. Used in an unoccupied room, these machines generate gas that seeps through even small crevices in walls and floors, eliminating pungent smell of cigarette in the process.
