Indiana Nursing Home Neglect Lawyer
As your senior loved one ages, you may run into problems at the senior care facility that may be life-threatening or common problems. Some problems may require the help of an Indiana Nursing Home Neglect Lawyer. There may be ways to handle some problems on your own, but some are too major to not take legal action.
The common, nonthreatening Nursing Home problems can cause anger and emotional distress, but there are some things you should do to handle these situations. If you suspect or know of a problem with your senior loved ones care, the first thing you should do is spend some time listening to the senior and trying to get them to talk to you about the issue. You will need to know what problems to look for, as many problems that arise can be a common thing. The senior may have trouble adjusting to a new living arrangement, which is quite common. If the senior is becoming frightened by the new senior care situation, this can worsen a health condition or may cause an overwhelming feeling for the senior. If this is your senior loved ones problem, encourage the senior to try joining a club or doing group activities, sharing ...
... a meal in the dining room can help allow them to find comfort in their new living situation.
Finding a solution to a problem may be the only way to stop the senior from feeling upset. You may want to find out and take a hands-on approach to help lesser the problem. The senior may not like their roommate, or the roommate may listen to the TV too loudly which is bothering your loved one. Not getting along with another resident is usually a common problem in nursing homes. Moving from living alone or with a spouse, to living with another person can be upsetting and uncomfortable for anyone. There may be some aggression and aggravation toward the roommate, which sometimes cause fights and other problems. Each resident needs their own "space" and if the senior feels that another person is entering that space, they may become hostile or angry, resulting in verbal abuse. Reporting these issues to the staff may be a good start, but ultimately there needs to be changes for the comfort of both residents.
Sometimes there may be an issue in a Nursing Home that is more than a simple matter. There may be a potentially serious problem in the nursing home that requires more intervention than a simple matter. There can be aggression from another resident and may even be violence, which is common but can be quite dangerous. It is a good idea to involve the staff if you notice this kind of conflict so that they can help determine the cause and they will be familiar with the situation. The staff usually knows the different personalities of the residents, so it will help to find some understanding within the conflict. You will need to address this behavior to the administrator first, rather than the nurse. If the verbal abuse is getting out of control, you will want to ask for a new room for your senior loved one. This emotional abuse is not safe for aging seniors.
Sometimes there may be a conflict matter including the staff members. If you have gotten numerous complaints from your senior loved one regarding a caregiver, try speaking with the caregiver or nurse. Do not assume that they are indeed as bad as your senior loved one is saying, but do not allow mistreatment either. Together, the staff member and yourself can come up with a reasonable solution to any problems the senior may be having with the staff member. You will want to make it a point to know each caregiver on the staff that cares for your senior loved one. Visit often, call often, and be informed on who is taking care of your senior loved one. You may not find that talking to a caregiver resolves any issues that your senior loved one is having, and at this point you will want to contact the charge nurse or director of the nursing facility. A serious concern needs to be taken care of right away. If you find that there is neglect, poor care, or abuse happening from a staff member, you will need to take action. Bed sores, weight loss, or your senior loved one talking to you about disturbing treatment from staff members can all indicate that there is abuse happening in the nursing home. You need to talk to the administrator right away! If you have reason to believe that abuse is taking place, you will want your senior loved one to be assigned to another caregiver, or may need to move to another nursing home all together.
If you feel that the abuse impacted your senior loved one too much, you will need to take further legal action. Talk to an elder care attorney or a Nursing Home neglect lawyer regarding the situation. You will want to take legal action, especially if you senior loved one was abused in a nursing home where their health was put at-risk.
