Although well known as fashion capital of the world, Milan is equally famous for important museums housing the greatest art collection of all times. There are many museums in Milan which have to be visited by all art lovers, without fail. The city itself is famous for the beautiful buildings reflecting the Roman style of architecture.

The most famous museum in Milan is the ‘Pinacoteca di Brera’ or the Brera Art Gallery. The Art itself is a beautiful palace of 16th century, consisting of art collection from the medieval Renaissance period in each of its 31 rooms. Some famous works of art that can be found in the museum are Caravaggio’s ‘Supper at Emmaus’ Works of Raphael like ‘Sposalizio’, Tintoretto, Bellini and many other artists. Because this is the most visited museum in Milan, booking in advance is necessary to reduce the waiting time. It can be booked as a part of walking tour, or museum package tours to get inside the museum faster.

... Last Supper’ of Leonardo da Vinci which is found in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie church. Because this is very popular in Milan, advance reservations are required to have a 15 minute viewing of this painting.

Ambrosian Art Gallery is found inside the Bibilioteca Ambrosiana which houses some if the greatest master pieces of paintings, mainly the collection of Cardinal Federico Borromeo. Poldi Pezzoli Museum is also very famous in Milan, with the art collection of renaissance period, and decorative art pieces of porcelain, glass work, jewelry and metal work. It was founded in 1881 by Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli as a nonprofit organization. The museum now houses all the art that he collected in his life time of great artists like Botticelli, Giovanni Bellini, Mantegna, Piero Della Francesca, and many more.

Also famous are the Leonardo da Vinci Science and Technology Museum, dedicated to da Vinci, where his works of art, inventions and drawings are displayed, Sforza’s Castle Art Gallery, where the famous last sculpture of Michelangelo ‘Pieta Rondanini’ resides.

Museums in Milan cater to avid sports fans too, with the world renowned Inter and Milan A.C Museum, Italy’s first sports museum inside the stadium. It is the house for more than 3000 objects belonging to Milan’s famous football teams, Milan A.C and Inter F.C. The museum along with housing the life size statues of 24 greatest players of all times also has a movie room to show the history of the two teams and the San Siro Stadium. With so much to see in Milan, planning ahead and making advanced reservations for all the museums is highly recommended.
