Despite this, with all that we know about stretching there are still people who do not see the value in any stretching advice that they receive. This is the wrong attitude and if the same people were to try out some simple stretching routines as part of their training sessions, they would see a big difference in how they feel after.

While it is necessary to take as much stretching advice as you can, it is also very important that you be careful where you get your advice from. Your body is a very finely tuned and advanced piece of engineering. For this reason it needs to be looked after and taken care of with the utmost of respect. If you take incorrect information on board and incorporate it into one of your routines you could end up doing more harm than good.

If you have followed some stretching advice from a friend or an unknown source on the internet you must be careful. The stretching advice you are about to read is mainly for beginners, but people who feel they may be more advanced might be able to take some of it on board also.

Before you begin stretching it is best to warm up your muscles and body. ...
... This can be achieved by taking a brisk walk or a slow jog.
A very basic form of stretching advice is to NEVER bounce when you are stretching. Always ease yourself into your stretches.
You must find a balance! That means that if you feel any pain you are stretching too much but, if you do not feel anything you are not stretching enough. What you should feel is a light pulling or moderate tension.
If you feel any sharp or heavy pain STOP!
Keep your breathing as regular as you can. This may take some practice and a little focus on your part.
Finally, so that you don't forget any step, start from your legs and work your way upwards through each muscle group. If you keep the same routine you will be less likely to leave anything out.

With your new stretching advice you are equipped to get a lot more out of your workout sessions. Just remember not to overstretch yourself.
