Right after the release of RIM's BlackBerry Playbook, we are experiencing the new trend of e-reading culture. The new technology of Rim's new entrant in the tablet market expanded the global e-reading service to foster a new kind of real-time book club culture.

A few days ago, KOBO, global e-reading service provider took the stage at BlackBerry DEVCON and arranged a demo tape for its social reading application for the BlackBerry Messenger Software Development Kit.

Such a social reading app allows users to do everything from chat with friends while shopping for books to discuss passages in real time. As the application is for BlackBerry platform, BlackBerry Application developers can use the new BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform — from utilizing social aspects to making use of push architecture.

This is a major move in the e-reader sphere, which hasn't been all that social until now — at least in terms of applications. With this app you'll be able to talk with friends while shopping for e-books, see which books your friends have read, choose who can see your library and which books you ...
... read with others, as well as share passages with others and discuss books in real time.

Since KOBO came up with such a BlackBerry application, Amazon's social network, Shelfari have announced to come up with such smartphone apps that would be basically the equivalent of Ping for books. Those apps are supposed to allow users to share books with friends and so many moves.

The real-time, hyper-social aspect with the smartphone tie-in, especially BlackBerry, is really touting to a new kind of social reading experience. It is true that most people who are interested in reading socially have found one another on Twitter and on various sites like Library-Thing and Good Reads, which already do this sort of thing pretty well and Kindle for the Web is supposed to hint at more social things including e-reading, till that Digital Book Reading app with BlackBerry became social iceberg at this fall.
