Vista SP1 or Vista SP2 can be upgraded to MCTS Certification.
For Windows XP, migrate files and settings using WET (Windows Easy Transfer) and then reinstall software programs.
For WET run MigWiz.exe in Support\MigWiz folder.

WET (Windows Easy Transfer) can transfer files and settings using :
- a Network
- a USB Flash Drive (UFD)
- an Easy Transfer cable (not a regular USB or universal serial bus cable)

WET can not move program files or system files like fonts or drivers.

For large deployments of Windows 7, use USMT (Microsoft User State Migration Tool 4.0)

WET (Windows Easy Transfer) : Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Windows Easy Transfer

When a custom installation of Windows 7, files that were used in the previous version of Windows are stored in a Windows.old folder.
To move existing Windows installation into a Windows.old folder and replace the OS with MCTS: Windows 7, Configuration,

select the partition same as where your current Windows installation is located.

To ...
... delete or to remove the Windows.old folder, Disk Cleanup utility can be used.
Use Disk Cleanup for Windows.old removal.

The MCTS covering the configuration of Windows 7 is a great place to start your Microsoft certification path. That is because that exam applies to at least 3

other higher level certification options. They are:

MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7
MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7
MCITP: Enterprise Administrator
The MCITP is Microsoft's Certified IT Professional and could be compared to the MCSE. However, there are many more types of MCITP than the MCSE and those

types of MCITP have various certification requirements. For example, to get a MCITP Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7 you need to take the Microsoft

PRO Exam 70-685: Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop Support Technician 7 on top of your MCTS in Windows 7 Configuration. The requirements to obtain the MCITP

Enterprise Desktop Administration 7 certifications are similar but you need to take the Microsoft PRO Exam 70-686: Windows 7, Enterprise Desktop

Administrator 7 exam on top of your MCTS in Windows 7 Configuration. I should note that both of these exams are listed as "in development" by Microsoft and

are expected to be released on November 16, 2009.

For a much more in depth type of MCITP, you can apply your MCTS in Configuring Windows 7 to the MCITP Enterprise Administrator certification. This version of

the MCITP requires free CompTIA questions that you take 4 tests, in addition to the 70-680 that

you passed to obtain your MCTS.
