Having a guinea pig can be a lot of fun. They start off as small cute animals and grow into cuddly fluffy animals. These animals make great pets and will need just a few supplies to keep them happy. The first thing that these critters will need, is a cage. Guinea Pig Cages are available in many shapes and sizes. Find out what makes them each unique and how they can benefit a guinea pig.

There is a standard cage that used for guinea pigs. It comes in a medium sized cage, with a lid that opens from the side. There is nothing found in the cage and the base is plain with no extra attachments or levels to climb. These cages are plain, however they serve their function. The average size is great for fitting into most room sizes.

There are bigger cages available for these pigs. Some cages can be found in extra large forms that may suit more than one pig. The larger the cage, the more room will be needed to keep it safe. The size and shape of cage will depend on the number of animals being housed in the cage and the space around it.

Some cages have more than one level. These are great cages for animals who like ...
... to climb and explore. Often there will be a ramp, cloth or ladder for these pigs to climb up. The upper level could be half the size of the cage or smaller. Most pigs will learn to climb up to the second level and use it just as much as the lower level.

When there is more than one guinea pig living inside a cage, it is nice to have two levels to the cage. It helps the pigs define their own space and gives them room to play. If a pig wants their own space or needs a place to create their own home, away from the other pig, they can do it with this type of cage.

There are tubes and attachments that can be bought for some cages. These attachments would fit into the cages that have the ability to take on tubes and tunnels. They create more space for guinea pigs to crawl through and also give them a challenge. Some people will put food at the end of a tunnel to give the pigs a mission to fulfill.

There are a few places that these cages can be bought. Department stores are nice for the large selection they may have. Pet stores will carry new products and handy additions to these cages. People may keep the same cage for the duration of the pig's life, or they could upgrade the cage to a larger size as the animal grows bigger and stronger. If a second pet is purchased, a bigger cage could be required.

With so many fantastic Guinea Pig Cages to buy, it may make it hard to decide. Most pigs are happy with their cages and use them to store there food and bedding. While a pig will like to roam around the home from time to time, many prefer to stay in the comfort of their cage. These critters make awesome pets and enjoy whatever cage they have to live in.
