What these social media websites and there huge networks are being used for has been the source of many conspiracy theories. On a personal level, there is a debate to be had about just how safe you are if you upload every gory detail about yourself onto one of these websites. So it's an issue of trust really, how much do you trust social media websites? For a private user this isn't a new debate, and is an issue that many sceptics have wrestled with since the introduction of such sites. In business terms though, social media websites are probably the most trustworthy tools out there when it comes to online marketing.

The main goal for any business utilising websites such as these is Social Media Optimisation or SMO. This is something that anybody conducting marketing online strives to achieve as it means that your website is generating a lot of traffic via links from social media sources. This is a far more cost effective way of advertising on a website as the advertiser only ever pays for the exact amount of people that have wanted to move on to the advertised website. PPC adverts also allow the business owner to accurately understand how effective a particular advert is because of the amount of people it attracts.
Given the success of social media websites it would almost be reckless for a business owner to not acknowledge them as a valuable source of business and an opportunity to attract customers. That's because of the sheer number of people, who are effectively potential customers, using these websites. Some research even suggests that the average person spends between two and four hours logged onto one of these sites every single day. For this reason business owners are pretty much forced to trust social media websites. The benefits they add in terms of SMO, SEO, PPC and any other form of other online marketing opportunities are almost boundless. By actively seeking social media optimisation, any online marketer will undoubtedly see a big difference in the level of business their company is attracting and the profits they are making.
