Fleas are the most common pest that plagues dogs. Fleas may be extremely irritating, but if you think that that's all the danger they bring, you're very much mistaken. In fact, fleas are very dangerous pests because they are carriers of tapeworms, and they are very contagious. Fleas, once they infect your dog, can be pretty hard to eradicate because their ability to survive is remarkable. They feed by sucking blood, and can jump from one victim to another. Dog fleas also reproduce at an uncontrollable rate. This makes them even bigger enemies than they already are. To check for dog fleas, the possible signs include itching and allergies.

The Dangers of Fleas and How to Eliminate Them

Fleas are pests, but they are not just pesky creatures. The primary danger posed by fleas is their rapid reproduction, especially since they can lay eggs anywhere in your house. Fleas can also bite humans. Dogs can also have allergic reactions to flea saliva, a condition known as flea bite dermatitis that can cause severe irritation, itching, and skin bumps. To prevent fleas, groom your dog in a regular basis, and be thorough when ...
... you do so. To treat irritation caused by fleas, there are a lot of products that can be used to eliminate these pesky pests. Aside from chemical-based insecticides that can cause negative effects to your dog, there are now herbal treatments as well. Garlic is commonly used to eliminate dog fleas. There are also othr kinds of eradication options such as the use of electronic products like flea traps and flea collars. And since the main problem with fleas is their ability to reproduce rapidly, there are also environmental solutions that target the source of the fleas. Protecting your dog from fleas is not enough. What you need to do is protect your entire environment from them.

What are Ticks?

Ticks are vicious carriers of diseases such as encephalitis, tick paralysis, Lyme disease, and some other dieases. Ticks, however, are slow in movement. They can be easily detected by the naked eye, and can be easily removed, as long as they don't come in huge quantities. Ticks can embed themselves you're your dog's skin, so the earlier you get to it, the easier it will be to remove them. Ticks that manage to get their heads into your dog's skin have unlimited access to your dog's blood. Your dog can easily get ticks from its daily outdoor activities. To prevent bigger tick problems, check your dog for ticks every time it comes home from outside. You can also prevent dog ticks with regular grooming. You can remove the ticks using tweezers. Never use your hands, because you can get harmed as well. If the tick's head is already buried, try to get as close to the head as you can. Carefully pull the tick away from your dog's body, making sure that its head is intact. Throw the tick to water or alcohol. After removing a tick from your dog, make sure to wash the infected area with anti-bacterial soap or apply ointment. Don't forget to wash your hands carefully as well. Ticks may be less problematic than dog fleas, in that they can easily be removed. However, they are extremely harmful, and can even cause diseases, not just to your dog, but to you and your housemates as well.
