What are Ticks?
Ticks are vicious carriers of diseases such as encephalitis, tick paralysis, Lyme disease, and some other dieases. Ticks, however, are slow in movement. They can be easily detected by the naked eye, and can be easily removed, as long as they don't come in huge quantities. Ticks can embed themselves you're your dog's skin, so the earlier you get to it, the easier it will be to remove them. Ticks that manage to get their heads into your dog's skin have unlimited access to your dog's blood. Your dog can easily get ticks from its daily outdoor activities. To prevent bigger tick problems, check your dog for ticks every time it comes home from outside. You can also prevent dog ticks with regular grooming. You can remove the ticks using tweezers. Never use your hands, because you can get harmed as well. If the tick's head is already buried, try to get as close to the head as you can. Carefully pull the tick away from your dog's body, making sure that its head is intact. Throw the tick to water or alcohol. After removing a tick from your dog, make sure to wash the infected area with anti-bacterial soap or apply ointment. Don't forget to wash your hands carefully as well. Ticks may be less problematic than dog fleas, in that they can easily be removed. However, they are extremely harmful, and can even cause diseases, not just to your dog, but to you and your housemates as well.
