Top tips on getting the best deals on the forecourts when buying yourself a brand new car. If you want to pay the list price as advertised by your local dealership then this will be a straightforward process. However most people do not fancy the list price and are always looking for that little bargain.

At present the car industry is under pressure so dealers and salespeople are desperate for trade and prepared to listen to any one interested in buying a new car. Even the most tame and easy going customer can, with a little persuasion, can get some discount and even a few added extras thrown in too.

Research the car you are interested in buying. Find out its price, what is included as standard and what is classed as added extras. Have a look on the manufacturers website to see what they are offering as deals too.

Do not settle for the first offer you receive, shop around, and check the Internet to see what else is out there. Many online sites will give you an idea of the current state of the market place and ideally what you should expect to pay. Call in advance to see what deals they are prepared to offer, ...
... do not leave it until they have you locked up in the office with no room for manoeuvring. Make it plain before you even set foot in the showroom that you are looking for discount on your new car.

Decide your exact specification before you go to the dealership; do not settle for a lower spec for the same as you could get something better. Aim low, you can always raise your offer but never negotiate downwards. Start low and increase, even if it seems ridiculously low they just might settle. Once you have an agreed price, try your luck with extras; see if you can get a better quality sound system or a sat nav thrown in for free.

Chose your time right, the end of the month is when sales staff have their guard down, they will be conscious of targets and bonus and more likely to negotiate a deal they will not consider at the start of the month. Another key moment is just before the number plate changes or a new model is released, many people will hold out a couple of days so as to get the latest registration or newest car. If this is of no concern to you great bargains await, just make it clear you are going to settle there and then.

Fees and administration costs are something of which to be wary, make sure the price does not increase by adding these after the deal has been struck. Mention them before you have concluded business. If its clear you are going to have to pay the extra charges, see if you can get a deal on servicing or finance.

Finally never feel pressured into making the purchase, a new car is an expensive option and it's always best to walk away than settle for something you ultimately will not be happy with.
