Sewage Cleanup In Fort Myers And Its Facilities
The Fort Myers Wastewater Treatment Division is a section of the city's public works department that is concerned with preventing residents from experiencing waste-related disasters that require sewage cleanup in Fort Myers in order to remedy. It is composed of two advanced treatment facilities that are located in two sections of the city. The first one, which is located at Raleigh Street, can treat up to 11 million gallons of waste per day while southern facility can process up to 12 million gallons.
The existing plants were constructed in 1985 and were made as a replacement to the old sewer plants that were in the same location. The newer treatment facilities service the city of Fort Myers as well as the nearby community of Lee County.
In this division, they are also tasked with the management of a state certified wastewater laboratory and an Industrial Pretreatment Program, which is responsible for the stabilization and land application of biosolids found in the wastewater.
A large part of the treated materials that are generated by the two facilities are discharged to the Caloosahatchee River while ...
... some are diverted back into the community for recycling. Fort Myers have made an expansion in its treatment process that have allowed the South Plant to reclaim the water and make them more effective for reuse. In order to do this, the disinfection processes have been improved to keep pace with the advancements in technology.
The wastes that need to be handled during sewage cleanup in Fort Myers include raw sewage. This kind of waste is the water that flows into the facilities directly. They are composed of products that are flushed down toilets, sinks, restaurants, and garbage disposals. Sewage is mainly made up of water but can include debris such as trash. In the first step of the treatment process, they raw sewage is filtered to remove the debris, known as grit.
Mixed liquor is a term that is used to refer to the mixture of raw sewage and activated sludge. This is the core process of any biological wastewater treatments. When it is properly done the mixed liquor can eat away at the pollutants in order to become more environmentally safe.
