In 1777 Simon Johnson coined the phrase "when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life" never has this been more true and here are our favourite tips for visiting London, the modern, buzzing cosmos for playing, working and living twenty four hours a day.

One - will it be rain or sun? Whilst the city is known to have unpredictable weather, you will not miss out as attractions are open all year round.

Number two - which one is for you? Which airline will you use and where will you stay. Make your arrangements well ahead of time and you can book cheap travel even during the busier summer months.

Three - tell them where you will be: Give your family or friends contact details for emergencies. Let your bank and credit card companies know you will be traveling, and avoid annoying calls to check your transactions are not fraudulent.

Number four - plan for more. Use the Internet and a good guide book. Visit all the tourist attractions: Buckingham Palace, The Houses of Parliament, The Tower of London, The London Eye, Trafalgar Square, Madame Tusauds or see them all on a one day, open top bus trip with ...
... a reputable company. After that you can plan day trips in and around the city.

Number five - pack to survive. Check the weather forecast before you pack, but do bring you brolly and your sunglasses. Your most comfortable shoes will be your best friend, and ensure no blisters.

Six - the transport tricks. Buy an Oyster card, the most cost effective and easiest way to travel around London by bus, train, tube or tram. It can be ordered on line and delivered to you at home. Make sure that you have a good London street map and pick up a tube map at the airport.

Secret seven: Put on your walking shoes and discover some lesser known gems: The Shad Thames and cobbled streets around the Tate Modern gallery. In the streets of the City of London, find Postman's Park - a small cemetery. The Zero Pub in Covent Garden, so small it has no street number. One of many crossing the city, Regent canal is popular with families, walkers and cyclists. The Chelsea Psychic Garden, founded in 1673 and after more than 300 years it still cultivates rare plants for research. St Dunstan's church, built in 1697 after the great fire of 1666 and rebuilt after it was bombed in 1941. London Field's Lido - the only open air, 50 meter, heated pool in the city. Let us know what your secret spot is and we will add it to our list.

There you have it; our seven tips for visiting London. You will go back for more.
