Carpet Cleaning Methods Explained: Foam Cleaning
Foam carpet cleaning is one of the methods used to clean carpets in homes as well as in commercial buildings. A machine is used to put foam into the carpet and then brushes work the foam into the carpet fibers and clean. The shampoo is worked into the carpet via a brush that also scrubs the carpet. Often, this foam will dry in 45 minutes to two hours. Afterwards, the foam will dry into a powder, and you can vacuum it up along with the dirt and the debris that is in the carpet.
Carpet cleaning with foam is one of the easiest ways to clean your carpet, as it doesn't require a lot of chemical mixing or setting up of complicated machinery. This type of carpet cleaning does well for high traffic areas that require cleaning regularly, and it can be a great way to keep your carpets clean. Dry cleaning is a modern technique that is being implemented by more and more carpet cleaning companies, with some vacuum systems incorporating the dry foam method, most notably Kirby, with their optional shampoo attachment.
Many experts do offer foam carpet cleaning, but there is some debate as to whether or not this method of ...
... cleaning your carpet is effective, or if it simply cleans the carpet fibers on the top of the rug. The foam method does make the top of the carpet look good, but some experts believe that the steam cleaning method, where water and soap is worked down into your carpet and scrubbed with a brush, followed by sucking out with a wand is much more effective. Some also endorse the dry carpet cleaning method that is being used by some companies.
One thing that you'll want to keep in mind is that the drying time can vary based upon the method that you use. For instance, steam cleaning probably requires the longest drying time - about 12 hours to two days being required before the carpet is perfectly dry and could be put into regular use again. Dry cleaning generally only takes about 15 to 20 minutes per room to perform and many 24 hour business places prefer this method. As for the foam method, it dries in about 45 minutes to two hours, and some - like the Kirby shampooer - can be walked upon afterward immediately.
Make sure that you research into the pros and cons of the different methods that you want to use to clean your carpet and choose the one that suits your carpet best. A professional carpet cleaning company will be able to recommend the proper method for each type of carpet. You should have your carpets professionally cleaned at least twice a year, and with higher traffic carpets, households with a lot of people living there, or homes located in a particularly dusty or sandy area, it may even be better to shampoo the carpets professionally four times a year.
