An Introduction To Football Betting Odds
If you are just getting into the football betting arena, then the very first thing you need to do is understand football odds. Too often, people think that betting on football is as simple as deciding which team you think is going to win and placing a bet on that team to win. The reality, however, is rather more complicated than that and you need to understand the betting odds thoroughly before placing your bet. Otherwise, you risk losing your entire bet simply because you did not fully understand the mechanics of football betting odds.
There are two main types of football odds offered by most bookmakers, the Asian handicap bet and the 1 X 2 bet. Of the two bets, the Asian handicap bet is a newer and more recent bet, which many football betting enthusiasts have yet to become familiar with. The 1 X 2 bet, however, is a traditional football bet that all football betting enthusiasts are undoubtedly already familiar with.
The Two Most Common Types Of Football Betting Odds
The 1 X 2 bet is the more traditional bet and is also relatively easier to understand as opposed to the Asian handicap bet. The 1 X 2 type ...
... of football odds offers bettors a choice between three possible outcomes a win on one side, a win on the other side or a draw. Each one of these choices will have a different set of odds for each and every game, and it is up to the bettor and his knowledge of football and the teams playing to determine which outcome is most likely and whether the odds are worth placing a bet on the match.
The 1 X 2 type of betting odds is relatively simple because even people betting on a football game for the first time understand that there can only be a total of three different major outcomes in a football game. They need only choose the outcome they think most likely and place a bet on that outcome. While more complex calculations to determine how worthwhile the bet is and the corresponding amount that should be placed, simply putting a bet down for the first time on a 1 X 2 type of betting odds is not difficult at all.
On the other hand, the Asian handicap bet is more complicated than the 1 X 2 bet. The most noticeable difference is that the Asian handicap has only 2 choices as to the outcome of the game, as opposed to the three choices in the 1 X 2 bet. With the Asian handicap bet, bettors only have to deal with two different football odds instead of three, thus making the bet simpler in theory.
What a first-time bettor must understand, however, is the exact way in which the Asian handicap bet eliminates that third option. It does so by introducing a handicap that is applied to the weaker team, so as to make the chances of either side winning as even as possible. The reason why the third option of a draw is not included is because, in the event of a draw even after the handicap for the match has been applied, bettors are refunded the full amount of their bets.
