Offline
While it perhaps doesn't have the 'cutting-edge' feel of many of the resources available today, those who disregard offline resources do so to their company's detriment. A number of tried-and-true places for discovering effective and efficient business tools exist in the offline world. These include, but are not limited to

Magazines
While business has existed in some form or another in every community that has ever existed around the world, innovations keep coming hard and fast. Business magazines are a good way to keep on top of the kinds of resources that you might be able to use to create a more profitable, dynamic business. Magazines are often more reliable than web-based information because the articles and information in them have gone through an editorial and fact-checking process. Some credible magazines include Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, and the Harvard Business Review.

Books
Similar to magazines but more in-depth, books can also provide access to valuable tools of the trade. Be careful in picking your literature: if you are going to invest the time required to read ...
... a book, it needs to be a good one. Some classics include anything by Dale Carnegie, Jack Welch, or Stephen Covey.

Word-of-Mouth
And last but not least in the offline category is word-of-mouth. Talk to people. Don't discount what those around you are saying - look into it. Ask questions. Some of the best resources you can find will come through asking other business owners what they do and what tools they use.

Online
The advent of the internet with it's freely available information split the business world wide open, and innovators and thinkers are still working on filling the crack. While resources change year by year, month by month, and sometimes even day by day, there are some standard sources that you can always look to.

Google.
Often considered the king of innovation, Google can at once lead you to good business tools, give you a model to follow, and help you build your own tools customized for your business plan. Resources like Google Apps, Adsense, and Adwords make the online side of your business easy, whether you are looking at things from an advertising, management, or income perspective. Google search, used wisely, can lead you to valuable, up-to-date information right when you need it. Be careful of data overload, however. With so much information easily available, it's easy to read much and then do little.

Blogs
Most magazines mentioned above also have online blogs that publish quality content. Some internet bloggers have made a name for themselves in the business world, too. Some worth reading are Seth Godin, John Jantsch, and Linda Kiley.

Small Targeted Websites
Many 'niches,' or 'business topics,' often have small websites that contain a great deal of information about specific topics that can be useful to you and your business. For example, for leadership and management you can check out http://www.thinkingmanagers.com/, for customer service look at http://www.customerservicepoint.com/, or for public speaking check out http://www.speech-time.com/.

In short, there are many places that you can discover effective and efficient business tools. All that it requires is keeping your eyes and ears open and actively looking in the right places. When you find something worth looking at, analyze it carefully, then give it a go and see what new results it brings for your and your business.
