Practical Ways To Clean A Rabbit Hutch
Although rabbits do not need any special care and attention which make them ideal pets, the place where they live and stay should always be kept clean in order to keep the rabbits healthy and well. At first it might seem like a huge task with all the things that you need to dispose of, wash then put back in afterwards. As you get to do the job again and again, you will be able to think of a system to hasten its completion. Here are some easy ways to clean the rabbit hutch.
1. Everything inside the hutch must be removed, the beddings, food tray, water storage, and the rabbits' toys and playthings. After removing all the things inside, including of course the rabbits, you can wash the hutch thoroughly with water mixed with vinegar which can help in disinfecting and removing the odor from the hutch. Be sure to clean the corners where they usually potty. Let the hutch dry under the sun before preparing it for your rabbits.
2. Put some old newspapers inside the cage to serve as lining. Place several layers to make it more comfortable for your pet. Allow a portion of the newspaper to cover the sides of the cage and put ...
... extra on the rabbit's potty place.
3. It is necessary to purchase some kitty litter to add to the newspaper lining on the potty corner. Observe your pets on how they adapt to this because sometimes they just want to play with it and shred the litter to pieces.
4. After the lining is done, you can place the bedding materials inside. You can use straw which is also a food item for the rabbits. Another material that you can use is shredded newspaper that you don't have to purchase as you can use old newspapers for this. If you have the money, you can buy wood chips from a pet store to serve as bedding for your pets. You can use different materials in different parts of the hutch.
5. After all the preparations are done, you can now replace the water storage, food tray and playthings inside the hutch and don't forget to put the rabbits back inside the now clean hutch.
6. After a few days, you will have to clean the cage again and this time you will be able to clean it in lesser time. You can use a trash bin to gather all the soiled beddings and then proceed to clean the cage.
