The splendid city of Prague has of course seen a lot in recent years. The period of Soviet rule followed by the sudden and dramatic fall of Communism brought some difficult times. However the city has even more recently come into its own, with industry and prosperity bringing fortune to the country and attracting tourists in droves.

It is of course not as cheap as it once most certainly was. Nonetheless it is still as beautiful, and so many flock here with good reason. Head to the old town for some spectacular sights, in particular the famous old castle. The more up-to-date side of town on the other hand is a buzzing place, with coffee shops and art galleries all over.

The architecture in Prague ranges from Gothic to Renaissance via baroque and neoclassical, art nouveau and cubist, meaning it is something of an architectural dream. But aside from this, the city is firmly cosmopolitan and modern looking. Although it doesn''t try and cover up its past, it is definitely more positive about the future.

Yet despite the history that Prague has seen, and sometimes had to endure, the city is confident and forward-looking ...
... these days, and its credentials as a cosmopolitan, continental destination are undoubted.

The Old Town is splendid, especially the Prague Castle which is supposed to be the biggest ancient castle which still stands today anywhere in the world. Head to the top and you''ll see before you the breathtaking vista, with views of the whole city that will help you get your bearings for the rest of your time in Prague. There is so much else around and about, such as the St Vitus Cathedral and the Castle Picture Gallery, as well as the Astronomical Clock and Gothic Ty Church nearby.

Around the famous Wenceslas Square, the New Town is modernised and filled with great bars and restaurants, not to mention the incredible National Museum and the colourful Jubilee Synagogue.

There are so many hotels and apartments in Prague that whatever kind of budget you are running on, you''ll find something that suits you. Opulent, grand surroundings or chic boutique hotels are available to you wherever you go.

There is something for every budget, and even if you have to stay a little further from the centre of town, the city''s transport system is well equipped to carry you quickly and safely into the main part of town from the surrounding areas.
