Scandinavia seems to be the place to be if you want good health and a clean conscience when it comes to travelling this year. Norway, Sweden and Denmark are famed for being unpolluted, ecologically responsible, and full of good-looking healthy residents as a result.

Such attributes make them rather attractive when it comes to visitors from the rest of Europe. Whilst the prices might be a little higher, there''s a lot to be experienced in these northern European enclaves. Oslo, capital of Norway and recently ranked the world''s second most desirable and green city to live in by Reader''s digest, is one such place worth a visit.

Whilst most of us think of skiing and woolly jumpers when someone mentions Norway, there is far more to the country than winter sports. Oslo is a dazzling city in its own right, home to the Norwegian government and monarchy, with an impressive mixture of classical architecture, palaces and town halls, and a thriving arts and music scene.

What is more, this is a city located on the Oslo Fjord, meaning that the city yawns down towards the water. So if you don''t want to visit in the ...
... winter and make the most of the eight ski centres or miles of cross-country forest routes around the city, you can enjoy sailing and a trip up the Fjord''s in the (surprisingly hot) Norwegian summer sun.

There is also plenty to see for those who don''t love the outdoors like the Scandinavians do. Norway has long been a mainstay for alternative music in Europe. Whilst Bergen is perhaps the country''s most famous musical town, Oslo can compete with a host of music and arts festivals. Whatever your favourite tunes, you can hear heavy metal in April''s Inferno festival or smooth, well-reputed OsloJazz in August.

There is something for everyone ? and with the freshest air one could ask for in a city, it might even make you feel healthier too. The clean waters of the country catch fresh fish, the fields produce delicious sweet strawberries and Norwegian baking is second to none. You can dine out on Oslo for weeks! Bonny Kominek, was inspired to write this article after travelling to Oslo with Octopus Travel, who they would recommend for Oslo hotels.
