Boston Travel Guide

The largest city in New England and one of the most historic and influential cities across the whole of the United States of America, Boston is a fascinating place to head off to for a trip. With so many museums and monuments to explore, as well as great artistic highlights on show all the time, not to mention its proximity to Cambridge just across the Charles River and home to Harvard and MIT, it is no wonder that millions flock to the city every single year.
Boston of course played an important role in the founding days of the United States. You can go on the 4 kilometre Freedom Trail walking tour of the town which takes in sixteen different historic sites, beginning at Boston Common and ending at the USS Constitution. You''ll get to see the old State House and Paul Revere''s House among many other significant sights.
The city''s Museum of Fine Arts is one of the country''s finest such galleries, bringing together a wide range of French Impressionist paintings, pieces of Oriental art, as well as works from European antiquity, not to mention modern American work. This is of course only one of the many museums ...
... of this kind you can experience and enjoy all across Boston.
If you want to explore the retail joints around the city, then the eight blocks of high-end boutiques, hair salons and galleries along Newbury Street make for a great day out. Whether you want to flash the cash on something good to take home or simply sit with a coffee watching the college students and urban professionals on the go, as well as witnessing the buskers and street performers around for your entertainment.
A visit to Boston Common and Public Gardens is always a nice retreat, and is a must-see for visitors during the summer months. This is the oldest public park across America, the place where you can take a ride on the famous Swan Boats, take a walk across the world''s shortest suspension bridge, and simply relax beneath the trees and by the foundations in these pleasant surroundings.
You can even go across Beacon Street and visit the ''Cheers'' bar, which is predictably always filled with tourists, or visit the open areas of the Common on the east of Charles Street.
The home of the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park is a popular location with sports junkies. This old brick-and-stone stadium situated in the Fenway neighbourhood remains a venue for the major leagues to this day. Match tickets are hard to come by, so if you don''t manage to see a game live you''ll still be able to enjoy a tour of the ground instead.
In all, Boston is one of the great American cities with plenty to see and do. Bonny Kominek is a freelance writer and US travel expert. They recommend Octopus Travel for Boston hotels.
