Sitges Hotels: What To Do In Sitges

Sitges is a town in Catalonia, about 35 km from Barcelona, which benefits from an excellent coastal location. Sitges has a reputation as being something of a centre of arts and culture, and hosts one of the premier European film festivals, the Sitges Film Festival, as well as an annual Carnival.
Sitges is also famous for an established gay scene, and is one of the most popular holiday destinations for gay couples in Europe, as well as attracting a cross section of all different types of holidaymakers. Sitages offers the chance to experience the traditional holiday activities of beach time and a vibrant nightlife, as well as cultural attractions historical and new.
You are spoilt for choice of beaches when staying in Sitges hotels, with seventeen different beaches to choose from. The principal beach popular with the gay crowd is the Platja de la Bassa Rodona in the centre of the beachfront area.
There are also two nudist beaches - Platja d''Aiguadol? and Platja dels Balmains ? as well as a selection of family beaches popular with all different groups of people. It is possible to find busy beaches with ...
... plenty of facilities such as pedallo hire, and also more secluded beaches within easy walking distance of the centre of Sitges.
A beautiful 17th Century gothic church ? the church of San Bartolome y Santa Tecla - is located on the seaside overlooking the beaches. Those heading to the nudist beaches will pass an old cemetery ? the Cementeri San Sebastia in Placa del Doctor Baromeu Robert ? which is full of statues and tombstones that are well worth a look.
There are three museums in Sitges which offer some respite from the mid day heat of the beach. In the centre of town, the Museu Romantic is a well preserved 18th century house which was a grand residence for a local notable, and now offers a glimpse into how the elite used to live.
Behind the church of San Bartolome y Santa Tecla are the other two museums: the Museu Marical and Museu Cau Ferrat. The Museu Cau Ferrat used to be the home of a famous artist called Santiago Rusi?ol, and now houses a collection of glass and ironworks. You''ll find a collection of artwork built up by a local doctor in the 20th Century at the Museu Marical.
