Car Insurance Issues
UK insurance laws
In the UK, you are legally required to be insured when driving a car, in order to cover you in case of accident or injury to other road users, as well as covering damage to property. It is illegal to drive a car without insurance and if you are caught doing so, it can result in a fine or even a prison sentence if you fail to produce a valid insurance certificate or photo ID card. This law has been in place since the 1930s and was updated in the road traffic act of 1988. Additionally, in order for a car to be taxed, an insurance certificate is required to be presented along with a valid MOT, before the car tax is issued.
There are no laws requiring you to cover your own car in a fully comprehensive insurance and in the case of an accident in the UK there are no medical costs due to the NHS being free of charge. So the only legal requirement is that you are covered to take care of any losses to the other party, with a third party insurance cover.
Insurance examples
There are many ways to obtain car insurance, and one of the best is Post Office insurance by Post Office UK, providing ...
... Post Office car insurance at competitive prices for all ages of motorist. There are many reasons why it is extremely important to obtain insurance, regardless of the fact that it is a legal requirement.
For example; you are driving to an event or business meeting and you are passing through a junction where there are traffic lights but the traffic is flowing freely. You decide to reach down to pick up a CD, for just a moment when you think it is safe to do so, taking your eyes off of the road momentarily. In this split second, the traffic lights change and the cars in front begin to slow down. You return your gaze to the road, but it is too late and you crash into the back of the car in front.
In this situation, if you are not insured, you will have to pay for the damage or even replacement of the car you hit, and if that car hit a row of other cars in the queue then you may be liable for those cars too. You may drive a cheap car that you don't feel needs insuring due to its low value, but if you hit an expensive car the repair costs may be extremely high.
