The Samsung B3310: A Smartphone For The Young And Young At Heart
It is hard to see the Samsung B3310 besides something that it obviously is: a smartphone that is targeted towards the younger generation. Sporting a trendy, sophisticated look, Samsung is posing itself to become one of the major contenders in the smartphone market/Samsung is posing itself to become one of the major contenders in the smarthone market with a trendy and sophisticated look. And with very hardy competitors like the iPhone from Apple and Blackberry's signature smartphone series, among others, Samsung does have its work cut out for them.
With the Samsung B3310, the tech company seems to be taking things seriously. The Samsung B3310 may look like something just for kids, but it's much more than that - it precisely the kind of gadget that tech savvy young people need to get up and about in the World Wide Web. The phone has a high resolution screen with a QWERTY keyboard that slides out when in landscape mode. So it does save out on the space factor, again, perfect for kids and teens who aren't into large phones. There are ...
... also number keys arranged at the left side of the screen - seemingly connoting that they also should be used when the phone is at a landscape orientation. While these keys are slightly inclined to one side to make it more convenient to use even when upright, it still needs a bit of getting used to - which makes the feature that will turn off people or something certain users might be willing to live with.
Multiple features are jam packed into the small unit, but nothing stands out. Which is understandable, since the 54 by 91 by 17mm phone is a bit too small to include the features or other larger and more high-end smartphones/This is understandable, since this phone only measures 54 x 91 x 17mm, thus making it a bit too small to include the features or other larger and more high-end smartphones. But don't get us wrong - the Samsung B3310 performs well, limitations considered. The build quality is also good - especially for a unit made almost entirely of plastic like this one, the Samsung B3310 feels very solid and appears to be able to withstand a few mishaps - except contact with water (which applies to every electronic device). The Samsung B3310 also features/sports/comes with a 2.0 megapixel built in camera, which can take passable pictures, good enough for a low resolution camera phone. The internal memory is poor to average, with a mere 40 MB available. The good news is that the memory is expandable via microSD, but you will have to buy that separately/The internal memory is only 40MB, but you can upgrade it with a microSD card that you have to buy separately.
The Samsung B3310 is not without faults though. One major feature that is lacking is a 3.5mm jack port/One big disadvantage is the absence of a 3.5mm jack port, which automatically disqualifies the phone as one you can use for music -unless you want to make do with the woefully inadequate headset, or if you try looking for a converter that will allow you to connect regular earphones/which means that you cannot enjoy wonderful music with this phone, unless you are ready to make do with the woefully inadequate headset, or if you try looking for a converter that will allow you to connect regular earphones. Another annoyance is the cramped keyboard. The keys are too close to each other, and even the spacebar is a bit too short for comfort. For the young users though, it might be a minor obstacle they can get used to in time, but it nevertheless remains a design flaw that the developers could probably improve on. Connectivity is also somewhat limited, with users having to make do with GPRS and EDGE and Bluetooth only. So unfortunately, there is no 3G or WiFi/In terms of connectivity, you are only allowed to use GPRS and EDGE and Bluetooth, for 3G and WiFi are all absent.
All in all, the Samsung B3310 is a good enough phone, provided your expectations are not that high. There are enough features to satisfy a tech savvy user on a budget, but there are a lot more better phones on top of this one, for sure.
