Marriage is a rite of passage, a way to show the world that couple from the ceremony, both become one. They form new families. Like any rite of passage in human history, marriage is wrapped in a lot of symbols. I will not even come here in the types of marriages in the most diverse cultures and religions. I will content myself to spend a little about the Catholic culture, the more traditional marriages.

The symbols of marriage are almost all on the bride. One has to believe that the groom is there just the same company to make the bride as a mere adjunct. The party is theirs and they are what stand out, mainly by the white dress, a symbol of purity. This purity was sought in antiquity, since this was the way found by the nobility that the couple's children were legitimate and would ensure the continuity of caste.

Along with the dress was the bride's bouquet, which was done in the early days of flowers and herbs to ward off negative energies and ensure prosperity for the new couple. A little later, this symbol of luck was transferred to unmarried women closest to the lucky, so they also had the same happy fate. ...
... Just before the bouquet was delivered to the woman chosen by the bride and later to avoid fights, set to play the game of bouquet, making the favoritism and giving an opportunity of sorts to all the friends and relatives.

Finally, the veil, a symbol of chastity and modesty, and reinforce the idea of purity, was also a sign of respect. Cover their hair in the church of God was covering the symbol of sensuality, more severely repressed in middle age.

Passam a formar nova família.
