A closet is a small and enclosed space in a room which could be intended for general storage or for hanging clothes. If a closet is well made, it can actually last for an extended time. There are antique closets made from as far back as 500 years ago which can be displayed in a museum but are still just as useful as the most modern pieces. What is intriguing is how these antiques will be able to last so long with their closet doors in good working order, while the hottest pieces only last for a year or two at the most.

Modern closets and doors don't have the same type of craftsmanship compared to those which were handmade. Today, the first things that give out are the closet doors even if the closets are lovely and luxurious. There are some that the doors either hang loose or they just fall out within a few weeks of purchase.

When seeking the best closets always test the doors, be they bifold closet doors, caf? style, mahogany, laminated or plastic. Be careful for these items while inspecting:

- Irregular or misaligned doors

- Door attchments are loosely screwed

- Weak door ...

- Plastic based attachments

- Inappropriate materials utilized for door attachments

- Abrasion marks left by the bottom edge of the doors on the flooring of the closet

The following thing to be performed is to actually test out the doors:

- Open and close the doors quite a few times and see when they misalign or open if they are supposed to stay closed.

- If you will find locks, shut the doors and lock, occasionally they're poorly manufactured doors where the door has to be lifted with the foot to align it for a successful locking.

- Although not enough to destroy it in the store, try slamming the doors several times, and see how they act on their hinges and attachments. If the hinges and attachments are loose, it will show after three or four slamming.

How the doors truly look on the closet is the last thing to look for. Take a step back and have a look at the doors; be careful for the even margins or edges. There is a misalignment somewhere if one door looks too flushed into the closet as compared to the other.
