Found on the eastern coast of Spain, Benidorm is a town which has developed for itself something of a bad reputation, and, what''s more, it is a reputation that is on the whole completely unfounded. Often cited as an example of drunken and loutish behaviour abroad, Benidorm is, in fact, a fantastic place to visit throughout the year.

Much of Benidorm''s reputation comes from its nightlife, which has, at times, attracted the wrong type of holidaymaker. However, this is generally only in the height of summer and as Benidorm is warm and welcoming throughout the year, from September to June it is the perfect holiday destination.

Benidorm''s main attraction is its three, first-class beaches, all of which have had blue-flag approval since the mid 1980s, confirming them as some of the best stretches of sand in the entirety of Europe. Many bars and clubs can be found on the edges of the beaches, and free cabaret acts often perform in the evenings, starting at around 2100 and continuing well into the small hours.

The town itself is said to have the greatest concentration of skyscrapers to people in the world, and ...
... is often compared to Manhattan. These skyscrapers are, more often than not, luxury or high quality hotels designed for tourists, accordingly Benidorm hotels are some of the best in the Mediterranean. One feature of Benidorm which often goes unnoticed is the remarkable amount of open space in the town, due largely to a major of Benidorm in the 1950s who ensured that every building must have leisure space attached to it.

Another often overlooked attraction of Benidorm is its remarkable location. The Costa Blanca is often rugged and striking and not too far from the town is the Puig Campana, which, whilst not rivalling the great mountains of mainland Europe is taller than any mountain in the UK and offers one of the finest views in the world.

Benidorm is a lovely city to visit throughout the year, due to the proximity it has a micro-climate that insulates it from weather from the west, meaning it is sunny practically all the year round. Even in winter the sea is around 15 degrees. Don''t let the negative reputation detract you from visiting Benidorm which remains a fantastic place to visit. Bonny Kominek, a freelance travel writer, has spent much of the last year travelling Southern Europe. For Benidorm hotels Octopus Travel comes recommended.
