The island is of course a stunningly beautiful place. Indeed many come to Antigua simply to indulge in the sunny, quintessentially Caribbean beauty. You can see more of what it has to offer by visiting the Botanical Gardens and exploring the wide array of tropic plants, flowers and wildlife. The gardens were destroyed by hurricane damage little over a decade ago, but have lately been restored.
A visit to Hawksbill Turtle Preserve is a wonderful treat too, a chance to see more of the wildlife on the island. To get a wonderful view of the whole island, then hiking to the highest point on Antigua, Boggy Peak, ...
... will give you a truly breathtaking sight.
Meanwhile if you want to keep the pace as slow as possible and relax on a beach then there is no shortage across Antigua. Whether you want to see rugged coastline or lay back on fine golden sands, Antigua has it all.
Lots of people visit the British Fort James located on the Martello Tower, a defence point which dates back to the nineteenth century. Highland House meanwhile is another attraction where you can go and explore the ruins of an estate house which goes back to the early colonial days.
Antigua is close by the much smaller island of Barbuda. There you''ll find the way of life much more easygoing, and so many travellers head there for the peace and quiet. The beaches offer the kind of spots where you could easily lose whole dreamlike days in a comfortable, soothing reverie beneath the sun.
When you head out and about you''ll discover very quickly the great culinary delights that Antigua has to offer its visitors. As well as having more than its fair share of spots where you can pick up standard European fare, you can find plenty of places that offer you the chance to enjoy traditional West Indian dishes too. Local specialities are well worth a try.
Antigua is an island which offers its visitors so many treats, from the stunning views, the peace of the beaches, the history and cultural highlights, to the chance to enjoy plenty of good food and drink.
