Problems To Avoid When Making Your Business Cards

A business card is part of the first impression package that you and your company will make to a potential client. A poorly designed or unappealing card can do more harm than good when making that impression. Here are some mistakes to avoid when designing your business cards.
Poor quality card material or printing
The easy way to making business cards is to purchase a business card kit from an office supply store and print your own. While this gets the job done, the results are often lacking. Passing off a card printed on thin paper with perforations around the edge looks tack and unprofessional. Printing your cards on ink jet or laser printers may be fine for personal use, but in the business world expects more. If you are going to put time into designing a quality card, invest in printing from a commercial printer for a better look.
Ambiguous message
Business cards are a selling tool for your product or service. When you hand out a cards, it should be instantly identifiable in what your business, product, or service is. Use a logo or picture that relates to your business. Also include a slogan or ...
... five to seven word description of your product or service. If you are selling yourself, include your job title alongside your name. Keeping your message strong and succinct will mean the difference between a client keeping your card and throwing it away.
Wrong format cards
A business card should adhere to a common size and shape. If you make your cards too large or too small, clients will have a difficult time filing them away. Most people like to keep business cards in organizer books or sleeves. A card of the wrong size will not fit properly and will run the risk of getting misplaced or lost. While a non-standard card may stand out initially, it runs the risk of being forgotten in the long run.
Too much or not enough information
Try to keep your business card design clean and uncluttered. Too much information is often worse than not enough information. The company name, your name, and title should be prominently displayed on the card. Use the contact information to prompt your customers on how you wish for them to contact you. If you have a physical location, then address and phone number are very important. If you prefer customers call or email you, then include only a phone number and email address. A web site should always be on your card. This gives customers an easy way to find your company and product.
A quality business card will help you stand out from the competition and create a positive first impression for your business.
