Any visitor to Italy is sure to be anxious to take a look at Pisa, famous home to one of Europe''s most celebrated architectural errors: the Leaning Tower of Pisa. However, whilst many visitors simply stop to see the tower and move on with their travels, there is actually a great deal more to see and do within the city. If you are thinking of taking a trip to Italy in the near future then why not spend a few days in Pisa and see just what else it has to offer its visitors?

Surrounding the Torre Pendente (leaning tower) are the rather more impressive Duomo (cathedral) and Battistero (baptistery). A morning or afternoon spent exploring the art and architecture of these impressive constructions, learning a little of their history and appreciating their full artistic merit, is sure to be time well spent.

A real treat for anyone spending the summer in Pisa is the Giardino Scotto. Once an old fortress, this site has now been converted into a public park where both tourists and Pisa residents alike are welcome to enjoy the open air cinema and live concerts that regularly take place here over the summer months.

Between ...
... the train station and Corso Italiano you can find the Tuttomundo ? Keith Haring''s mural and great gift to the city of Pisa. After visiting Pisa, Haring felt so moved and inspired by the city he decided to create and donate this wonderful piece of artwork to the city.

Many people choose to visit Italy for the food, and Pisa''s culinary offerings are certainly no disappointment. From fresh pastries in the morning, served up with scalding hot espresso or a creamy cappuccino, through to pizzas garnished with freshly picked rocket leaves, home cured parma ham and generous curls of parmesan cheese, Pisa''s cuisine is some of Italy''s finest and much of it is served up in some of the city''s most charming, crumbling, historic buildings.

Pisa is often treated as a mere pit stop. Tourists break their Italy tour to take a brief visit to the famous leaning tower and often do not take the time to appreciate the city of Pisa fully. If you can, take your time in Pisa. There is a great deal to see and do here, in terms of both modern and ancient culture. Pisa is home to many charming restaurants and watering holes and makes a magical place to stop and take stock before your next Italian destination.
