Skoda started off in the 1890s. Back then they would manufacture motorbikes. Over the years, the company underwent few significant changes, among which commencing into the automobile industry deserves a special mention. In between, Skoda created some of the steadfast cars; some of which were purely dedicated towards serving the military, in times of the infamous second world war. The automobile brand underwent a few more changes to its name, until they decided to round up on “Skoda”.

The Czech automaker known for offering the world, some of the most practical as well as affordable sedans, hatchbacks, and SUVs of time, is known for reliability, spacious interiors, and value for money. Although the European brand is known for its steadfast manufacturing, somehow like other brands, Skoda models too face challenges. Some common problems faced by Skoda owners are as follows.

Common Skoda Model Related Problems
Even though there is no surety to whether your particular Skoda car would face these types of issues or not, we would still like to brief on some common ...
... challenges that mostly all owners face.

Engine Overheating
A common issue faced by Skoda car owners, that compel them to take their vehicle for a Skoda service in Perth, engine overheating is a usual issue that older models experience. Engine overheating occurs specifically when the car’s cooling system cannot dissipate heat generated from the engine. If you are clueless about whether your car’s cooling system is working well or your car engine is optimally releasing heat, here are clues to look for:

Temperature range is crossing normal limits
Loss of acceleration and power
Smoke arising from the hood
Fluid leak found underneath the car
Loud banging of the car’s engine

Did you know it is very dangerous to drive a car with overheated engine? Excessive heating can bring permanent damage to the engine. That is why experts recommend you shut down the engine as soon as you find any of these hints and straight away call a service expert.

Causes for An Overheated Skoda Engine
If you are thinking that your car too is not spared from the wrath of a faulty and overheated engine, wait a minute. It could mean that your Skoda has these underlying problems:

Coolant leakage which happens due to cracks along the hose, reservoir, and the radiator
A faulty water pump that is inefficient in circulating the coolant
A thermostat failure due to closed sticks, prevents coolants from flowing to the radiator
A broken head gasket can cause the coolant to leak into the engine
When the radiator cap is not fitted properly or has a fault, the coolant loses pressure
Blocked radiators can cause reduction in airflow

Replacing car parts such as a leaky hose, faulty water-pumps, thermostats, and radiator caps can solve the problem, quite easily.

Brake Failure
Its extremely dangerous and one of the reasons why Skoda car owners bring them for a service is a failure in the braking system. If brakes stop operating in the middle of a ride, situations can turn risky. A faulty brake will cause the vehicle to not stop or slow down even after the brake pedal is pushed. If you are scared already, watch out for these signs, and get the car corrected now.

Watch out for these signs of brake failure to avoid risks:

Significant loss in braking ability for example, an extended stopping distance
Brake pedals start to feel softer and spongy
Brake pedals no longer remain strong and they will just drop to the ground when pressed
Grinding noises show up when the pedal is pushed
Brakes start to feel a little unbalanced when operated from left or right
A warning light illuminates, indicating problem with the brake

If you come across any of these at an intense or lower level, do not wait. Head straight to the service centre and get the brakes fixed immediately to avoid any potential damage later.

The brakes of a Skoda car can fail due to reasons as stated below. Look:

Worn out brake pads and shoes causing loss of friction leading to longer stopping distances
Softer brake pedals which mean that the brake fluids have escaped
Brakes fail to release on time or do not release at all because of failed wheel cylinders
Sudden reduction in hydraulic pressure because of a non-working master cylinder
Disabling of the anti-lock brake arising from ABS unit failure

Also, Skoda owners face electrical issues which arise from the vehicle’s inherently complex wiring system leading to major system disaster at times. Common electrical issues with the car may range between fast battery draining, failed lighting system, intermittent stalling, warning light related issues, windows, or sunroof not able to open and infotainment system glitch. Although these electrical issues may seem difficult to identify, they can be reversed if handled by a Skoda mechanic. Other than electrical problems, complaints with the transmission of the vehicle are common. These may include difficulty in changing of gear, unusual noises arising from a gear shift, car getting stuck in single gear, slipping of transmission and so on. Although problems like these can seem minor at first, there are chances that these will grow in the future leading to difficulty in driving a Skoda car.
