Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus And Possible Causes And Symptoms
Type 2 diabetes is a chronic medical condition which requires a continuous monitoring as well as regular treatment. Type 2 diabetes mellitus occurs when there is an insufficient production of the hormone insulin by an organ called pancreas. It may also take place when tissues of the body become resistant to norm al or even high levels of insulin. This condition may result into high blood glucose (sugar) levels. This condition of high blood glucose level if left untreated can lead to a number of complications.
Regular treatment as well as continuous monitoring is essential for keeping the level of sugar in control. Treatment of this condition includes lifestyle adjustments, self-care measures, and sometimes medications. The level of blood glucose can be controlled near the normal range. If the blood glucose is in control then, it minimizes the development of diabetes related complication. It is a life long disease which is related with the high levels of sugar in the blood. It is the most common form of diabetes.
Diabetes is caused by the condition in which the body makes or uses insulin. Insulin is required by ...
... our body for the movement of blood sugar (glucose) into cells that is stored and later used in the form of energy.
In the condition of type 2 diabetes the body does not respond properly and correctly to insulin. It is also famous by the name of insulin resistance. Insulin resistance means that liver, fat and muscle cells do not respond to the insulin properly. Due to this reason the blood sugar does not enter into the cells for the purpose to be stored for energy.
The level of sugar goes on increasing and becomes abnormal as sugar is unable to enter the cells. This condition is also known as hyperglycemia. High level of sugar often compels the pancreas to produce more and more insulin, but it is unable to fulfill the body's demand.
Overweight people are more likely to develop insulin resistance as there is an interference of fat with the body's ability to use insulin.
The condition of type 2 diabetes occurs gradually. At the time of diagnosis of this diabetes most of the people are overweight. But it may develop in the people who are thin especially the elderly.
