The biggest fun activity in the childhood years after reading and playing was the hobby of collecting postage stamps. I do precisely remember at what age I was fascinated by stamps. The initial collection goes back to the early school days maybe in Class III or IV when every mail that landed my home in my home with a stamp pasted drew the instant attention.
The hobby, I vividly keep in mind also involved spending the valuable rupee or two to purchase from the stationery shops some rare stamps that were either in diamond or in triangular shapes. The Postage stamps of specific countries gave an insight regarding the leaders, the flora and fauna, a glimpse of historical events and culture. One of the rare belongings was the First day Cover with Gandhiji’s picture released in 1948 that my father handed me.

Some of the greatest people in the world have been avid stamp collectors of their era. No wonder it was considered to be a luxurious hobby. You can also collect stamps from a Packing and shipping center.   
Stamps have now become a part of the past era specifically in the digital world where the new norm of communication is email and text messages. Even the art of writing slowly dying and Kindle and digital books have replaced the traditional books. The world of stamps will still keep on charming aficionados from all over the world for years to come.
