What are fixed braces?
Fixed braces consist of multiple elements, including brackets, archwires and rubber bands. At Zen Dental Studio, we use the Controlled Arch Technique while treating our patients with braces.
How much does it cost?
Fixed braces start from $3000. At Zen Dental Studio, we offer complimentary free orthodontic consults. Come see us for a consult and have your concerns addressed.
What is the Controlled Arch Technique?
The controlled arch technique is an advanced technique focussed on getting ...
... better facial aesthetics as well as improving form and function of the teeth as well as jaws.
The teeth are commonly treated as the problem, however, if we were to dwell deeper, a combination of genetic as well as environmental factors often affect the position and size of the jaws which house the teeth. If the jaws are improperly developed, the teeth are the ones that suffer.
Controlled arch braces looks at re-establishing teeth and the jaws to grow to their genetic potential and we try to undo the environmental influences that affect them. With the jaws at their optimum size and position, the teeth can be aligned to create beautiful smiles and balanced faces.
What is the difference between Controlled Arch Braces and Traditional Orthodontics?
Controlled Arch takes a little different approach to moving teeth. This system looks at the patient’s oral foundation, not just the alignment of his or her teeth. For some patients, this can be important.
Traditional orthodontics often seeks to straighten the teeth in the position they are in, whether that position is the most natural or not. This may be an overly crowded position. In these cases, teeth may need to be extracted to create room in a narrow space, and then the teeth are aligned. But these invasive changes can all be made so that the teeth fit into an unnatural narrow position. This can lead to later problems such as potential sleep apnoea, grinding and clenching, head and neck pain and jaw pain.
Controlled Arch starts with jaw alignment and positioning. The goal is to get the jaw into its natural, genetic alignment. This is usually a wider position, which often eliminates the need for removal of teeth before the remaining teeth are straightened.
What bite issues can fixed braces treat?

Our dentists look at treating existing or future potential:
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems
Bruxism (grinding teeth, clenching)
Guiding airway and oral growth to improve sleep
Improve sleep disordered breathing

What is early intervention orthodontics?
Early intervention orthodontics is also called growth or interceptive orthodontics. It aims at safeguarding your child’s future good oral health.
Early orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics play a vital role in ensuring your child’s jaw and bite develop properly from a young age, as a child’s jaw is easier to guide into the correct position while they are growing.
Who else is involved during treatment?
A team of practitioners may be involved in your child’s treatment. This may include ENT surgeons, osteopaths, chiropractors, myofunctional therapists, sleep physicians, orthodontists and oral surgeons.
